The Muse Hotel Boracay4.0 out of 5.0

We booked quite early and this was still one of the more expensive options, the pictures made it look like great value for money, but the reality was not so. On the plus it is located perfectly on station 1, a short walk to the quieter beaches and close enough to the action of Epic bar and the raucous fun of station 2. The hotel spills directly onto the beach, making you feel like you really are in paradise, this made up for the fact that the pool was not clean on any of the 4 days we stayed there. The ocean is beautiful and warm so you shouldn't need to swim in the pool anyway. The view from our room was of a dirty side street, but there was so much action on the beach we really just slept in the hotel and spent the rest of the time out. From the hotel we also took a walk to the northern part of the island nearly 2km through the more rural areas. It was a very humbling and tranquil experience. The breakfast was a decent spread, but breakfast in the Philippines seems to involves much more carbs than most people would be used to, so that was different. The staff were extremely friendly and willing to assist with a wide range of requests. Overall with paying a premium rate, the hotel could use a bit of uplifting, but a decent choice for a short stay on the island.
This is a follow up to the post from RodelF, now that we have completed our 10 night stay from Dec 26, 2017 to Jan 5, 2018. We are pleased to report that overall we had a great time in Boracay. We rated 'average' for The Muse, based on a top rating for the staff, but a low rating for the hotel facility itself. The staff were by far the reason why we enjoyed our stay in Boracay. Celine (Guest Services Manager) rectified our initial concerns with attentiveness and professionalism. She did what she could within her powers, and followed up with us everyday. She has a tough job dealing with what I am sure are numerous complaints by guests. I only hope that the hotel can support her better by investing in fixing the obvious problems with the hotel's building. The restaurant staff were the standouts! We had breakfast everyday at the hotel restaurant, which was a great start to every morning. The Executive Chef, Gelan Grenada Labajo, cooked up many traditional dishes, and varied the menu as much as possible. We had great laughs and his advice for negotiating with tricycle operators was much appreciated. His chef on the eggs, Jose, always greeted us with a smile, and remembered our order every day. They were supported by Noel, Anna, and Azla (apologies, i didnt get the name), and most notably, John Mark Guarino. JohnMark gets a special mention as he has by other reviewers. His service was exceptional, and his genuine desire to keep guests happy was obvious. We learned a lot about JohnMark, and his story is amazing. He also gave some valuable advice about how to get to places we wanted to see. Without fail, he would ask the next day how our adventures panned out. Even when we shared our initial difficulties with the hotel, he was compassionate, and checked our progress every day. Finally, to ALL the other staff; including the security contractors, we thank you for providing us with a great Filipino experience. The greetings every moment of the day are priceless. Again, we urge the hotel owners, to improve the facility. The staff are doing the best they can. They cannot fix the leaks in the rooms; they cannot fix locks on doors; the top floor balcony is under utilised, and is a missed opportunity to attract more interest in your hotel. The staff receive the brunt of the complaints from guests, which in many instances is not fair, because the complaints can be avoided. As in our case, a simple thing like wifi in the room should not be a problem. Smaller islands in Asia like Koh Samui have better wifi in all locations. Steve's Cliff restaurant at the northern end of White Beach has faster wifi! Invest in some new routers please!! Michelle and Rodel As for the room... We booked the ocean view room (324), and the view was perfect. The jacuzzi (1 of 2 on the balcony) was immediately in front of our room. The room itself was fair and kept tidy. The bathroom was not built well, with water pooling on the floor between the bath/shower and toilet. It looks like the levels weren't done well, so the water run-off from the bath flows onto the floor. There is evidence of previous water flooding as the door frames show water damage on the base. The hotel itself , in addition to what has been already noted... water tap at entrances to rinse feet (saves the staff cleaning the floors all the time); the pool area needs drainage to be sorted out (you can smell the dampness caused by stagnant water); the door lock on the third floor access to the jacuzzis (next to the room we had 324) needs to be properly replaced as it is never closes well, and unlocks itself in the wind, which at night causes loud banging; and your proposed upgrade of the restaurant and bar will be welcomed by future guests.
Location- Excellent.Good walking distance to the hustle of station 2. Cleanliness- can be improved. The pool always looked uninviting as i questioned the cleanliness. Breakfast- small intimate and sufficient. Staff service- excellent friendly and accommodating staff The surprise- it was the last day..we were preparing to check out. Heard some noises in the ceiling...but attributed it to maybe birds/rats in the air conditioning..note- i heard similar noises the previous morning but dismissed it. After the noises subsided we noted strange noises in the room..looked up- and saw RATS! inside the room!!! Staff were helpful in removing our belongings out of the room and pacifying us.
We arrived on the 26th Dec 2017, and as I write this, it is the night of the 28th Dec 2017. The sad thing is, I am writing this in the foyer of the hotel because we have no wifi in the room. The past two days, the Guest Services Manager has tried to arrange for a personal wifi router for us. Unfortunately, after two routers later, it has been unsuccessful. Hence why I am in the hotel foyer this evening. I have remained patient and positive throughout, but it is now becoming ridiculous. Other little things have come up as well during our stay so far such as: leaking water in the bathroom; twice requesting a ‘do not disturb’ door hanger; and consecutive days asking for toilet paper. We have put up with it, so as not to spoil our holiday. I believe other guests would have been much more angry than I am. (Maybe that in itself is my error - maybe I need to be more forceful). Anyway, I post this now to get TripAdvisor users to comment (and maybe even the hotel management). I am here for another 7 nights; it is the peak period of the festive season; and I’ve run out of options/ideas other than to put up with this unsatisfactory situation. The staff are generally attentive and friendly. However, as a guest paying a premium for this hotel, these issues should not be happening. If I can get wifi at local cafes/bars/restaurants, and somehow cannot get wifi at a hotel that I have paid over AUD350 per night, seems ludicrous. I have requested the Guest Services Manager to think about what recourse I have, and what they should be offering me as a result of this ongoing inconvenience. I shall await tomorrow for what that may be....as well as a resolution to the wifi situation I hope. I acknowledge I am fortunate to be having this holiday, and others are less fortunate. However, it should not excuse the fact that when you pay for something, you expect the service to be provided. I hope I get the opportunity to edit/update this review, in a positive way. Time will tell.
First of all, I enjoyed my stay at the Muse! I give the staff five star, and the building two. The staff is beyond any expectation when it comes to service mindedness, politeness and feel-goodness. There is allways a smile and they are allways trying their best to help you. The hotel appears nice when you enter it, and the rooms are large and comfortable. They are clean and welcomeing. However, noice is a challenge. The doors seems to lack any abillity to reduce noice. Averything that goes on in the hotel, including from the swimming pool, finds its way into your room. The windows as well, are not noice reducing to any extent. Fortunately, the party on the beach tends to die down around 11-1130pm. Staying at the top floor, I experienced very low water pressure in the shower. Also, my shower tended to be digital, in terms of being either scoldingly hot or quite cold. To sum up, the staff is excellent, the hotel has more flaws than the price should allow. I may well stay here again, but not at the current price.
Location is in rather well located on beach front, rooms are rather new, BUT Unlike other beach front hotel they do not have private beach area, instead the area is rented by the SandBar Service is good but we found hair and dust behind the door, this is what we could see only, Wifi connection just ok Breakfast restaurant is small but they try to offer different dish everyday Beach in front of the restaurant has mainly boats so cannot swim, departure location of boat tours The swimming is indoor and small Nice roof top to watch the sunset, they have a huge place and hope they could arrange it as a sunset bar.
The quality of the finishes are very poor, we stayed at the beach front rooms with a large balcony area in front, unfortunately the floor retained all rain water and the area was unusable. The bathroom fixtures were falling off the walls, the newish tiles had pieces falling off, there was no cable TV, no shower curtain so the bathroom floor became very wet and dangerous. Oh, and there was an instruction not to get the sheets dirty - first time I've seen such a warning in 30 years of world travel.
Formerly the Nardana hotel, the Muse Hotel is centrally located at the beach front of Station 1 in Boracay. Reservations agent and front desk staff member Neil Camaya dutifully changed my booking due to an unforeseen circumstance and made me feel immediately welcome at the hotel. What made it even better was that we were double upgraded to their best rooms with seaview and open-air jacuzzi!!! The room was spacious although the bathroom was quite small. Since it is low season, there was no breakfast buffet served in the morning. They only served a breakfast set of your choice which was quite a disappointment but serve JOHNMARK/JM made it all up for us - offering us quick and friendly service, serving us fresh fruits and even delivering our breakfast to our room when my friend didnt feel well! Over-all, it was an amazing stay - everything was accessible and the crowds were thin so we enjoyed Boracay much more! Highly recommended.
The hotel has a very elegant lobby and rooms have complete amenities. Strategically located right at the beachfront, we were able to enjoy the beach, the sun and the sand. All in all, this is a perfect place to relax and unwind!
The Muse Hotel is relatively new when our group (140+ pax) checked in. Location is great since it is on the beachfront. The jacuzzi at the rooftop is also good but too small, nice view though. Food is good too. I just hope that this time, their number of employees already increased so as to serve the hotel guests' needs well. One more thing, airport transfers should be well-communicated as well. I don't know if it's just with us because we were many but I hope they have designated airport reps by now.
