RIU Playacar was a great resort and we enjoyed our time there. It was smaller than others I have been at but was a nice change and worked for my family as I have two teenage daughters and they were able to navigate the resort together and without us at times, and I felt completely comfortable with that.
Beach and Pool: There was sand volleyball every day on the beach, which was a plus. The beach was gorgeous and well-kept with lots of palm trees closer to the resort. There was never a shortage of chairs, although if you have a big party and want many together, you may need to get there a little earlier for pool chairs if you want a particular location. There were two pools that were smaller than others I've been at, but they were clean and nice. There was also a pool with a swim up bar.
Entertainment: There weren't tons of on-going planned activities during the day, but we enjoyed the Coconut Party (dancing, fresh coconuts), and the acrobats. There was also an evening party called the Neon Party with a sister resort. Don't miss it! In the evenings, there were shows every night in an open aired theater area, often with live music before and/or afterwards.
Food: There was a small snack bar open during the day, two buffet areas (one for breakfast and one for lunch), and 4 four restaurants available for evening meals (Italian, Asian, Mexican and Steakhouse). No reservations required, although sometimes there was a brief wait. The drinks were good (get the Mango Tango!).
