very dissatisfied with our stay. they were under construction, we did not have access to most amenities, pool, hot tub, no patio chairs were available for sitting, there wasn’t any coffee available in the rooms, hot water was very luke warm, and we were charged full price with no access to most amenities. we would like to be credited for either another night of stay after construction, or full return for the inconveniences.

Monterey Tides is under construction/renovation!
There were no disclosures on the hotel website nor hotels.com that there was a major renovation in progress. Pool was closed, no in room coffee as advertised. No access to the beach as advertised. Loud construction, dust, many closed areas, Scaffolding blocking views. Paint odors prevalent in the hallways and rooms. Parking lot was packed with contruction vehicles and many worked hanging out on tailgates after their day's work. All the desk staff could say the were sorry. No compensation in return for the inconvenience. This was a $300 room with a $0 pleasure experience. We were also informed of a $150 Pet fee when we checked in. Yes we did have a pet, but have never paid $150 for the fee. This was not advertised on Hotels.com, not could I find it on the hotel website. On the positive side, the restaurant staff was attentive and helpfull for pouring coffee and wonderful cocktail service.

Another great stay at The Tides
The trip started off a bit rough because we didn’t know the hotel was under construction and we had trouble finding our room. After the first night we familiarized ourselves with the hotel and the stay was as pleasant as we’re used to. We love that we can bring our dog and how close we are to the beach. We can’t wait to return! The bar staff were lovely and we enjoyed cocktails by the fireplace.

I wish I had read the reviews ahead of time. The hotel is under major construction. The only good thing was the room was nice - luckily got a remodeled room. It would’ve been nice to be upgraded to an ocean view. We arrived at 9pm. Someone at the front desk escorted us to our room, which turned out to be necessary because we had to cross construction barriers, walk along hallways with zero lighting and I have two kids with me. Construction noise pretty early in the morning. Elevators did not work from the 3rd floor so we had to go up the stairs to the 4th to go down to the main floor. Or cross weird barriers to walk down to the main floor. Upon checkout, I let them know we were unaware of the construction. The reply was “You booked through a third party, they should’ve mentioned it.” $25 per night to park. $40 resort fee. And the tv remote didn’t work on our first of two nights. I don’t understand how they can charge full price right now. Even though it will probably be very nice when they’re done, we will not be returning.

Property was a construction site - not a hotel. There was absolutely no indication of their website or any communication indicating that it was a construction. Very unscrupulous to have nothing on the website. Would highly recommend NOT to book here at all - and with them not be truthful about the condition of the “hotel” I would never book here again.

Disappointed with our stay. We booked this hotel because of its private beach entrance. We arrive at the hotel to find it completely under construction without any prior knowledge of it being under construction. We enter in the lobby about 2 hours before check-in just to see if it was available which it was not which is okay but the lady told us we had to use another entrance to the beach because we had our wagon. it was a long walk through a bunch of sand and hills.I’m 7 months pregnant and have a toddler with me.It was exhausting.Then we arrive at 3:50 to check in they say they need 5-10 more minutes.Now it’s 4 o’clock my husband goes to the desk to ask if our room was ready to which they said someone needed to inspect it first.5 minutes later we get checked in. we were placed in a 2 queen inland room which is not what we booked. We booked a king bed with a full ocean view on the newly renovated side. So we had to go back and say we were given the wrong room. then we finally get to our room which was beautiful but our luggage wasn’t there. We were able to check in our luggage earlier. So we called front desk and they said they would have someone bring our luggage to us.Two hours go by and have yet to receive our luggage so my husband goes down to get it and the lady told him “sorry he said he was going to do that”. Unfortunately it doesn’t end there.The next morning we used the hotels entrance to the beach. Going back the entrance was zip tied shut so we had to climb over.

Property is under large scale construction which is not noted on their website or through Expedia, but still try to upcharge you? Little hot water, access around the property confusing. Still charge a resort fee even though there is no direct beach access, pool no longer heated, fitness center closed. TV did not work in our room even though we asked for it to be corrected on the first night stay of a 4-night stay. No phone to call, we had to walk to front desk to ask for towels, cleaning, etc. We should not have been put in a position to demand a TV in another room just to watch the Super Bowl. We have stayed at other Tides properties throughout the US. Though we have stayed at this property over the past thirty years under various names, thus property definitely brings down the Tides brand name.
