If you live in laid-back Southern California and want to see a city bustling with activity, you can fly from San Diego to Hong Kong. The trip takes 17 hours after you drive yourself to the San Diego International Airport (SAN), and you'll be hit with many new sights in one of Asia's busiest cities once you land.
You can get a great view of the city's towering skyline by taking a ferry ride across Victoria Harbour or riding the tram up to the top of Victoria Peak. Whenever you need a break from the rush of the city, take a ferry to Lantau Island, where you can admire historic temples and charming villages. You can then take the Ngong Ping 360 gondola up to the Tian Tan Buddha near the Po Lin Monastery. If you'd like to buy some things to take home with you, browse the shops along Cat Street.
The area is served by Hong Kong International Airport (HKG). Upon your arrival, you can take a bus, a taxi or the Airport Express train into the city. The region is packed during the Lunar New Year, and festivals and fireworks headline the events. During the summer, afternoons in the upper 80s can feel even hotter because of the high humidity. The winter sees temperatures in the 60s.
