Fly to Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport

Once capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco is now one of Peru's most popular destinations. The city itself is packed with architectural treasures and historic sites, and it's also the starting point for many a trip to Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.

When you fly into Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport (CUZ), you'll land just on the outskirts of the city. It's a short taxi ride to the city itself, so make sure you only used official taxis, and agree a price before you get in.

Once in the city, a must-see is the ruins of the Qoricancha or Sun Temple. Make the most of this extraordinary site with a guided tour which will uncover the layers of Inca history.

The Museo Municipal de Arte Contemporaneo contrasts nicely with both the Museo del Centro de Textiles Tradicionales de Cusco and the Museo del Sitio del Qoricancha, both of which focus on native cultures.

Children will love the chocolate museum and factory, and the unusual Sacred, Magical and Medicinal Plantas Museum is a fascinating way to spend a few hours.

Hints and Tips
If you are feeling fit, take the steep climb to the spectacular Sacsayhuaman Inca ruins, high above the city.

Flights Review

Quiet overnight flight.

Sep 16, 2019

Be mindful that LATAM's lowest economy fares do not include free inflight beverage service. Not an issue on the short hop from Cusco to Lima, but not ideal on longer flights.

Sep 16, 2019

This was a short flight with coffee and water only.

Not happy to pay for luggage

Orbitz did not inform us of a Visa requirement to travel to Bolivia when I purchased the tickets from Orbitz online. and after my initial disappointment of being told my wife and I could not travel to Bolivia when trying to board the plane, the agent at the Amaszonas airline checkin counter helped us out by making the document copies we needed etc. Important !! all US travelers require a Visa to enter Bolivia and it is recommended that you get one before traveling from the Bolivian embassy in the US but if you haven't, there is a way to travel. You must have paper copies (not on your phone electronically) of -proof of your stay in Bolivia- (hotel reservation) paper copy of proof of your return flight out of Bolivia (an itinerary receipt is Ok) paper copy of your Passport and your ability to pay the $160 fee for the visa ( this seems a bit costly but you're buying a 10 year Visa so 16$ a year is cheap). We actually had to show the $320 american cash to the ticket agent and they made a copy of it and stamped in large letters on our 2 tickets that we did not have the visa but would pay $160 ea. for the visa upon arrival in LaPaz. Once we arrived in Lapaz the process was a little odd but OK, there's a special counter available just for travelers without a visa to purchase one. The process takes about 10 minutes and you have to show and surrender the paper copies which are kept in an actual heavy paper file envelope and pay the $160 for each Visa. Bonus *they do accept a visa credit card for the payment. Then you get your picture taken and they stick a Visa page and the adventure to a great country begins.

The food, the service by the flight attendants, the entertainment choices, and even the bathrooms, were superior. Thank you, LATAM, for this wonderful flight experience. Frequent air travelers like myself love to be treated with these things.

Flight was smooth and on time!

Lima airport customs agents act like brutes. My 3rd time of abuse. If a tourist likes abuse go thru Lima airport.

Sep 29, 2018

Not a lot of communication at gate about plan’s delay and about boarding

Aug 27, 2018

Boarding was really slow (could be more organized by seat #). Deplaning was also a mess. People should be advised by attendants to deplane forward seats first.

Aug 27, 2018

When the cabin manager found out this was our long-awaited anniversary trip, the crew gave us a nice card and treats!

Aug 20, 2018

Plane was so spacious! Wonderful flight crew—all very friendly. Super modern plane (liked the natural darkening of the windows), tons of luggage storage above. Wonderful entertainment selection! Love!
