Although it is located only about 50 miles northwest of Manila, the Clark International Airport doesn't technically serve the capital city of the Philippines. When you fly to Clark International Airport (CRK), you'll land in what's known as the "Clark Freeport Zone." This is a refurbished and redeveloped former American military base that is located in both Angeles and Mabalacat.
The Clark Freeport Zone has flourished since its days a military base. It is now composed of golf courses, casinos, and resorts of all kinds. You can even find a place to relax near the Sacobia River or take a peek at the Clark Museum to learn the history of the area. Come sometime in January or February and enjoy the Philippine International Hot-Air Balloon Fiesta.
Of course, you can also explore the cities of Angeles and Mabalacat if you so choose. Angeles, the larger of the two, maintains historical and intricately designed architecture like the Holy Rosary Church, the Pamintuan Mansion, and the Museum of Angeles, housed in the old City Hall building.
Although the Clark Freeport Zone with its numerous golf courses and casinos might sound appealing, most tourists don't venture outside it. Angeles is commonly referred to as the poorer step-cousin of the more vibrant Manila. In fact, many people choose the Clark International Airport as a destination simply because it's cheaper to fly there and hop on a bus to Manila than it is to just fly straight to Manila.
There are loads of places you can travel to from Clark Intl. Airport (CRK), but the most popular international destinations are Incheon, Hong Kong and Dubai.
Domestic flights to Davao, Bacolod and Puerto Princesa are also quick to sell out. Reward yourself with a trip to one of these amazing destinations. There's nothing like the gift of travel to rejuvenate your soul.
Unfortunately, there aren't any hotels right in CRK. That said, you're certain to find an ideal place to stay before your flight if you search farther afield.
The Royce Hotel & Casino and the Maharajah Hotel are excellent choices just outside of the airport. Book a room at either the evening before your flight and your departure lounge will be just minutes away. The Royce Hotel & Casino offers guests a casino, luggage storage services and business center facilities. The Maharajah Hotel also has convenient amenities like luggage storage services, laundry services and a garden.
