Wonderful place to stay in Vientiane. Walking distance to everything in the center. Quiet oasis, lovely, comfortable room with balcony overlooking pool and garden, great breakfast with the best baguette outside France. Highly recommended.

Great hotel, lovely staff

A lovely hotel in a very convenient location. The staff were polite, welcoming and helpful. The room was large, comfortable and clean and the pool area was very relaxing. I had several meals, including breakfast, and all were very nice. I would highly recommend this hotel and the staff.

We loved the attention to detail, cleanliness and the pool as it was hot! We would have liked a larger twin room as we stayed for 8 nights and were tripping over each other. Breakfast and Restaurant service was average. Reception and housekeeping excellent.

The pool and breakfast were great! The washroom is a bit old but not a deal breaker. Staff are so friendly and kind. I would recommend this hotel!

Nice hotel, very chic.

Overall the property is absolutely stunning from the outside. The room we had was a double, Room 2 facing into the beautiful garden. The room was not large but equipped with all the normal western features. Being a part time citizen of Asia I’ve grown accustomed to sprayers in the toilet and this hotel was not so equipped. Additionally the rooms are showing wear and tear. Our A/C leaked all over our clothes and was not sufficient to keep the room cool. We asked for repairs but..... didn’t happen. One thing about the room I really loved was the minibar was all FREE! I’ve never seen this before! Free juice, free sodas, free snacks. Nice touch. Overall 3.5 stars

Wonderful hotel in a great location with easy access to the cafe scene and night market and with plentiful tuk tuks to get you anywhere else you want to go. The staff were really attentive and helpful and didn’t hesitate to offer us a new room when our air con broke down. I would definitely recommend this lovely place and would certainly stay again. They also had the best croissants of our entire trip!

Room for improvement

Dinner in restaurant was a disappointment. I am happy to pay the high prices for good quality food but this fell short. Tough steak; lumps of ice in my sorbet. The food should have been returned to the kitchen but I was too tired to make an issue of it. Good wine. The room as before, is comfortable and pleasant. Restaurant serving staff could do with more training, the standard fell short of expectations for a holes of Ansara's standing.

We stayed at the Ansara on 3 separate occasions during our Laos trip - 2 x 1 night stays in a standard room, and a multiple night stay in a suite. Both room types were excellent, and relatively good value. The suite was superb. Location is good in the old quarter and close to the night market (if you are into that sort of thing). Hotel facilities are generally good. If I were being picky, the pool water can be very warm and not that refreshing, and the pool area could do with some more shade, but I don't see that as a reason not to stay there. Breakfast quality is so-so. Restaurant is very pricey and seems to serve only European fare, so there is really no reason to eat there if you are after local cuisine as there are plenty of other good options close by.
