Friendly hotel in excellent location.

Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Had a good sized ground floor room with small patio leading on to a garden which is a very family friendly area. If patios were cleaned up e.g. sprayed with Wet and Forget and tables wiped it would make a huge difference because everything else is clean and well cared for. Well situated for walks along the beach and into town.

Very dated rooms

Had to go searching for someone to check in, then again later to find someone to serve a drink at the bar. Room is clean and tidy with an effort made to update it with new curtains and bed throw, but furniture is old and mostly orange pine, stained and marked. Paintwork is chipped and marked and generally tired I had a view of a wall from my bedroom window. Bathroom fan is incredibly noisy and bathroom fittings are also dated. When I asked I was told the WiFi doesn't work this end of the building. Not much help as I wanted to do some work. The bed was rock hard, sleeping on a bench would have been more comfortable. Food was good, fresh, well cooked and interesting, though when I asked in the bar for a menu, I was told someone would bring one to me which I found strange. Wine was reasonably priced.

Great stay

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a good size and very clean. If I had to find a fault, I wish the showers could be warmer and more powerful. But would definitely recommend and would go back again.

We had a lovely room with a nice see view. Only there for one night but enjoyed a couple of drinks in the bar & the breakfast was a great start to the day. All the staff in bar, reception & dinning room were friendly & helpful....all with smiles on their faces & happy to chat.

Great hotel!

The room was amazing. I rang up to try to upgrade but the manager assured me that we had a good room. And it felt like the best. For a standard room [rice we had a large ground floor room with an entrance to a patio and the lovely back garden. The staff were amazing and so helpful , and the breakfast and lunch were excellent.

A great stay

I’ve got to say the staff were second to none. I had an appointment at 1pm and due to a missed train connection got to the hotel at 12.50. They went out of their way to make sure I was there on time. All the staff I encountered were very friendly and the night porter was great. He had a very exuberant crowd in until 4am and managed them really well. If I have to find something to improve on, it would be the shower in my room. Not very powerful and not particularly warm. But that was minor and made up for by the fact I had a great view of Ailsa Craig.

This is an older property but being so close to the Royal Troon Golf Club, it is a firm favorite with visiting golfers. I love the staff. The SB Hotel has hired local people over the last 70 years I have visited.

Hotel clean and well presented. Food excellent. Staff friendly and service efficient. It would have been a perfect stay if they hadn't charged us for 2 bottles of wine and 2 pints instead of 1 of each! Apologies were made but then I was issued with 2 new bills! Get organised and you'll be up there with the best!
