Lovely and clean

Outstanding cleanliness in the room. I’m very particular about cleanliness, especially with regard to pillows, sheets, duvet and bathrooms, and I have to say that everything was fantastically clean. The decor in the rooms is old, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing when the furniture still works and is well kept and clean. The grand, original lobby is very beautiful. It’s just a shame the original exterior of the building has been covered up, I suppose in the 70’s. Wonderful view over the bay. A great stay and we would come back.

The bedrooms were clean and well stocked. Unfortunately we couldn’t open our balcony window more than a few inches due to a security tag and a sign to say that due to building works going on, it was too dangerous to use the balcony. We were not told about this on our booking or our arrival. The room therefore was stifling hot and uncomfortable. I was woken serval times during both nights by shouting and singing. The hotel is loud and there are generators that are noisy. The gardens and general outdoor areas are tired and are in desperate need for a spruce up.

Pretty good, staff were very helpful and room was nice. However the fan in our bathroom did spit out some dirt onto the sink. Also had some problems with the bedsheets but the man on reception at night was very helpful and fixed it right away.

Nice hotel needs some tlc

Room was clean hotel was in a great location and the views were amazing. The bed was tiny a small double at best, was comfy but could barely fit two adults. The room was very dated and all we had were two cheap platic chairs on the balcony. The bathroom was newly decprated and modern but the shower was alet down with low water pressure. The outside of the hotel was sabby and needed some tlc, the biggest disappointment was its August and the outside pool was shut and from other reviews has been for sometime. The room also lacked sockets especially around the bed area where you would normally charge your phone. Overall pleasant stay not sure it was worth the £100+ price tag becuase of the smallest bed in the world but did the job for a night. If they gave this hotel some love and brough it back to the standard it was a number of years ago they would have a gem.

Summer break

We had a very comfortable stay at the hotel and were impressed with the facilities and friendly staff. We returned for the 2nd time having also enjoyed our first stay. Love the views of Torbay and the internal architecture and furnishings of the hotel. It was a shame that the outdoor pool was closed but enjoyed the indoor pool / spa facilities.

We were given a room with an a door adjoining an occupied other room. This was changed. The rooms are in extremely poor condition, worn, dirty, sink would not drain, door would not lock, then bath would not drain. Dirt under beds and in all areas. The outdoor pool was not open and looked to have been shut all summer due to the mould growth in the empty pool. This is a very poor ghotel and should not be rated 4 star...

Beds were very comfortable. A beautiful but aging old hotel. Requires alot of modernisation to bring it up to spec. Staff are fabulous and food is great. The hotel is missing out on basics such as hoovering communal areas as debris could be seen on floors from the night beforehand and windows havent been cleaned in ages. Outdoor pool is not working which was disappointing. Room temperatures were a little hot as windows couldn't be fully opened. An average stay

My husband and I stayed at the Imperial for a week in July .When we got to our room we found the furniture to be very dated and tired looking , although the bedding was clean . We also were surprised there was no little fridge in the room for milk and drinks. Outside the patio consisted of 2 chairs so we had to move the table from inside for our drinks and the floor looked as though it hadn’t been swept for some time . We knew in advance that we had to pay for parking but don’t think there should be a charge to park in the hotel grounds . We only spoke to 2 members of staff . One at check in and one when we checked out . We left a day early and the only comment from the girl was “we don’t give refunds “ . Neither of us mentioned a refund . Would we stay again … no .

AVOID - Not a 4 star hotel at all

I hate leaving negative reviews, but feel it so important on this occasion. All reviews state could do with updating, that had me fooled as I thought it would be like other hotels which need a little TLC and people moan, no this one needs upgrading, scrubbing, maintenance, and staff training. We have just returned from this hotel, and had we enough money to go elsewhere we would have walked out, but was not in that position and 3.5 hour journey didn't want to go straight home! OUTSIDE POOL IS CLOSED - and has been all year, unlikely to open this year, in case you are going for that reason-not advertised. Food, though nice, slow service and not all ingredients listed be careful! Room grotty, smelly, no air unless patio doors open (when you have a dog with you this is impossible without keeping them on lead). Mattress absolutely disgusting, thank god we didn't see it until the last day!! Poor furniture, uncomfortable, very old and too big for the room leaving no floor space. Cleaning service, non-existent - left the sign out for our room to be cleaned and left floor mat and bath towels in the bath to be replaced, the floor mat rolled back up - soaking wet and covered in hair - and left back in our bath. Dirty wet, oily towels, hung back up for use! Reception staff - lovely, but not much help and stand silent when being spoken to with shrugs and don't knows thrown in, and again very slow. The positive, our view was incredible and the prosecco delicious. That's it
Bathroom floor after "clean"
Floor mat, rolled up soaking wet and covered in hair and placed back in bath to re-use (after 3 days and a "clean")
Carpet after "clean" can't upload more pics, but have plenty!
Mattress!!

Location of the hotel was nice, had places that are walkable to go down to eat. Hotel in general was okay, I felt it has had happier times there, the building itself looked a bit unloved and old and could do with a lick of paint at least. When we’re there the swimming pools were closed, one was in maintenance and the other someone clever smashed glass in the pool so they had to sort that out. It was a real shame as that why we booked there as it had two pools. That said the stay was comfortable, the room was old but okay and we slept very well. I hope they will maintain the hotel as it has potential but definitely needs some investment to it.
