The Grand Hotel4.0 out of 5.0

I have just returned from The Grand Hotel, where i spent 3 nights in a clean, bright, single room. Equipped with everything i needed. Good TV, great selection of tea, coffee, biscuits and bottled water. Yes, the hotel is a little dated in some areas, but this just adds to it's charm for me. Everything was immaculately clean, which to me is more important. Thd breakfast was good, with a great range of traditional cooked and continental. Great baked goods and fruit salad etc. I tried the cream tea, sat outside in the sun and it was delicious. The scones were warm and the jam and clotted cream was generous in quantity. Yum! If you are looking for a boutique style hotel, this may not be your style. It is full of warmth and character. The stars of the show though were the staff, warm, charming, attentive and kind. I witnessed their special attention of an elderly guest, who i understsnd had been visiting for many years. The staff were so kind to him, i was very, very impressed. The only reason i gave 4 star, rather than 5, is because of the slightly dated areas, which i'm sure will be addressed over time. Would definitely recommend to friends.
This was my 2nd visit to the hotel. I took my mum for a birthday treat as she was 80 in June and never been to Devon before. I booked direct with the hotel and was disappointed on arrival to be informed the indoor pool was closed for 2 weeks for maintenance as I was looking forward to using it again, but this was the only disappointment during our stay. The outside pool I was informed was heated between 8am and 6pm and luckily the weather was kind to us during our stay. We stayed in a family room 308, lovely large room with a sea view mum could have looked at all day. Room was clean and comfortable and had a lovely walk in shower. I booked us on half board and the food was varied and delicious. We ate in both restaurants during our stay and the staff couldn't do enough for you. As the train station is behind the hotel, we caught the train to Exeter for retail therapy for the day and the next day caught the train to Paignton to catch the steam train as mum had never been on a steam train before and we did the river cruise to Dartmouth which was included in the steam train ticket price. Another lovely day out. We had a lovely walk around the Torquay shops and walking along the sea front in the sunshine can't be beaten. The hotel is very central situated and very relaxing. Lovely to sit outside in the sunshine with a nice drink. Parking is very tight in the small garage, but loads of free parking in the train station and a porter is always on hand to assist you with luggage and then park your car for you which I found very helpful. All in all a very enjoyable stay and I'm sure it won't be my last.
Ordered 2 pints of overpriced p**swater. Ok ok, I know this place is rubbish but I came for the view. They served the beer in warm glasses and when we complained the poor sod serving got the hump. He will probably get the sack from Mr Richardson for beer wastage I expect. Would give it one star but it gets an extra for the view. Avoid. Horrible place.
1 bed pet friendly room Very comfortable fair size room good hospitality Tray within room with good selection good night sleep Hotel provided a dog blanket and dogie bags with 2/3 bones nice touch staff friendly good food, fantastic location I have nothing negative to say about this Hotel Well done.
We came here for a long weekend and had a wonderful time. Ok the hotel is a bit dated but that is all part of the charm of a grand hotel. We had a room with a magnificent sea view and a balcony with 2 chairs (room 214) so my advice is that is you want to stay here make the most of paying a little extra,it is worth it just for the view.there is free parking in the garage,on the road and in the railway station which is at the side of the hotel.the staff were lovely and very polite.it is about a twenty minute walk into torquay and there is a bus stop opposite which will take you into Paignton for £3 or brixham for £5. Great choice of breakfast from the buffet bar but if you want something special you can order it( but you have to pay extra). There is a nice pool area and also an indoor pool and spa.we will definitely come back here but I would want to make sure I got a sea view first.
the hotel is generally very nice and has a good location. The staff are superb and helpful. The garage is not that bad, but looks a bit cluttered to fit all cars especially big ones. The room was nice, clean and neat. The furniture was dated but in a very good condition. The bed was very comfortable and clean however, my wife complained that she got itchy when she woke up. I had a sea view family room, and I enjoyed the view. The food were excellent, and the service was very lovely. I recommend anyone to try Grand hotel when visiting Torguey.
Grand hotel close to train station, good walk into city centre bus stop outside hotel. Paid for sea view however window was broke down so couldn't see out of it very well was on 4th floor. Room needed updating, bathroom run down, water pressure very slow.Tea and coffee ample in room with biscuits. Breakfast well below par, evening meal a la carte nice food but service very slow. Staff friendly. Would not go again
My family and I attened the Grand as part of my sister's 50th birthday celebrations. The food was absoultley superb and the service we received from Luminita was exceptional . We plan on returning again to stay over for a few days to fully appreciate this magical place .
Had the pleasure of having a drink in this hotel. Absolutely lovely decor. Traditional and fitting for the location. Unfortunately as I was ill with a migraine I couldn't stay for the meal however the rest of my group did and they said the food and service was wonderful. I will return to this hotel.
Arrived for just a one night stay, being a first time guest! Very efficient and professional welcome from the receptionist and nice little touch of complementary tea/coffee which was very pleasant and enjoyed it in the bar while the room was being serviced. Was given room 1 on ground floor and found it to be a good size with the usual expected 4 star touches I.e flat screen tv,tea/ coffee and toiletries. It was rather tired with very large sash windows on two sides, all single glazed and not the room to have if you forgot the ear plugs, because of traffic noise!! Managed a couple of hours sleep! Bathroom had a bath designed for very short people as was the shower which only extended 3/4 the length of shower rail. Don't like seeing lots of grout missing and usual black mould on the wall tiles! The food was excellent , as were all the staff, who were all polite and again professional in their jobs. Shame about the room,as would have enjoyed a return visit and can only assume we were given this room because of the short stay.
