Ok, so the hotel isn’t the best at all, but our experience was definitely not as bad as most of the previous reviews. Our room was 436 (we had our pup with us), it looked out on to the courtyard at the back of the hotel which honestly we didn’t care about as we were out for most of our stay anyway! The room was adequately clean (which was our biggest worry. We booked last min for the location and tbh did not read any reviews, after doing so I was genuinely really anxious and didn’t want to come) however the ONLY thing I could complain about was the state of the curtains. The room was quite small but still fine for the three of us, it didn’t feel too cramped. The room was also extremely hot and humid (due to the weather I think) but the hotel had provided us with two fans, a really nice addition for the hot weekend! The TV was working fine, you are provided with an iron and ironing board, kettle with free tea/coffee and a hairdryer, some of these I’ve not even gotten in a 5 star, so that was fab! The room was on a slant which was hard to deal with when we got home after a few bevs lol, and due to being an old building the floor was very creaky which as we were on a high floor I felt quite bad for anyone below us. I won’t lie I wouldn’t stay here again, it’s definitely not to our taste, BUT if you’re just looking for a cheap stay with a comfy bed to sleep in, it’s actually fine.

Don’t believe the good reviews- this place needs a few million spending on it to get it up to standard. Thick dusk in rooms, wonky floors, first size gap under doors, dirty towels, smells of spoke on reception. If you’re coming for a lads weekend fine. Coming with partner or kids, run - awful place

Pronouns matter

Excellent stay again from the evening reception team at this hotel where I stay regularly as a guest when doing voluntary unpaid work in Yorkshire. Only problem is the morning reception team who misgender trans and non binary people at check out with male pronouns

We stayed for one night during the sunny spell, we booked as a last minute decision and the process of booking ran very smoothly. We called the hotel beforehand to ask a couple of questions which were answered very politely and we were made known about a car park around the corner, as there is no parking at the hotel (the car park we stayed in was reasonable in price and only a short walk- we managed to do everything in one trip, with a baby, a pram and bags). When we arrived at the hotel, the gentleman at the desk was very welcoming and our room had been upgraded to a suite for the night, it was explained to us that the lift only reached the 4th floor and the suite was on the fifth but we agreed we’d be happy to manage the walk up the final flight of stairs as it was nice to be upgraded and it was only for 1 night. We also added on the breakfast for the next morning whilst we were checking in- it was cheaper to add the breakfast at the hotel rather than the online price through hotels.com. The suite we were staying in was huge and had a large bathroom, bedroom with a single bedroom off it and a separate living area. They had put fans in the room for us which was nice as it was incredibly hot. Everything worked but there was a smell from the bathroom, it was an old bathroom so looked as though it was hard to keep completely clean, but it was comfortable. The breakfast the next morning was lovely and we had no problem finding seats even though it was busy. All staff lovely.

10/10 Great postion for beach / city centre. Marvellous friendly ,helpful staff, good quality breakfast/evening meals , comfortable bed/pillows, fluffy towels, good selection of drinks in the bar, comfy seating in bar , fab Edwardian hotel with a must see staircase and thick plush carpets. I used multi story car park across the road Friday night to Sunday noon £21. I would certainly go back to the Royal hotel.

By far the worst hotel I have ever stayed at (we didn’t stay either, we checked out after a couple of hours of checking in). The room had not been cleaned, urine stained bathroom, just filthy. Safety wise - mould everywhere and signage missing. Elective cupboards left open. Damage everywhere. Ceiling tiles missing or water damaged. Do not stay. We ended up booking the premier inn down the road which honestly was luxury after being at The Royal. Have requested a full refund with customer services as hotel could only offer a 10% refund. Would have added more photos but won’t allow.

It is a wonderful OLD building. Well decorated. Great Breakfast. My room (403) was small. The flex for the kettle was too short and the floor sloped towards the emancipation door. But i guess it's a very old building. The staff were excellent. I have no complaints.

The reception employees were not service minded during check in and out. I arrived at 11 am and asked about the possibility of early check in (anytime before 15:00 even paid for). The receptionist asked for my name and once I gave it, the reply was No, it's fully booked even though: - he didn't even check. - a couple that he helped before me got to check in. - when I came back in the evening and asked for a floor fan, the evening receptionist said he'd look for any available in the "unoccupied rooms". Concluding that morning receptionist lied and the hotel wasn't actually fully booked.
