Very clean, magnificent looking place, staff very helpful. Some quibbles though.... I am not particularly early to rise and 9.30 is a bit of an early breakfast finish by today's standards. Iron in room - but no board! Would have expected 2 pillows each as standard. 2nd delivered on request - though a bit surprised to find them propped up against the door, not taken into the room. None of the above a deal breaker - but the lack of left luggage is a real issue. We had to hump our bags to the cricket having checked out. Is there really no space?

I was disappointed as i paid more for a window room and all i could see was a flat roof and seagull mess and the noise from seagulls were annoying. Also you have a nice down stairs seating area but you cannot get a coffee or a drink from the bar until 7 pm .also parking in and around the hotel made my break expensive also i was not happy with the drunks coming in from the streets so people that were staying at hotel couldn't sit down and spoiling the entertainment

We are taxi drivers in Whitby, and a night away was well needed. The Grand was lovely. The staff were lovely, we sat where the grand staircase was, which was relaxing, chilled music and lovely staff. Really enjoyed our short stay and would definitely come back.

Great stay in an impressive building

The Grand Hotel in Scarborough is an epic Victorian pile and a lovely looking building. The entrance, lobby and ground floor space immediately make an impression, all swanky sofas and marble columns. The check in desk holds it's historic charm, with the room keys all in little cubby holes, but it did tickle me that it's now cluttered up by monitors that the staff have to peer awkwardly around. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The lift up to the room was a tiny thing and made a worrying crunch past the first floor (this was definitely attended to the next day when the fire brigade arrived). The room itself was nicely furnished with some attempt at matching the Victorian grandeur of the building. The bathroom was fairly basic and plain but did the job. I did rather boringly wonder if the original Victorian bathrooms were nicer than the modern shower and whatnot. Due to the hot weather recently, the room was very warm, so the fan tucked away in the wardrobe came in handy. Bed was comfy but the heat and noisy seagulls kept me awake most of the night, but that's not the fault of the venue. I didn't have breakfast, so can't comment on that, but for a good budget stay in an impressive hotel, I was happy.
