Viva California! Right in the Heart of all the Fun
Viva California was designed to be lively, colorful, and inviting, with its own California flavor and is located right in the heart of the super fun neighborhood of Hillcrest/North park. Lots of primary colors and fun patterns in the bedrooms and living area, plus new modern floors and design with lots of space for up to 8 people.
Viva California is walking distance to lots of restaurants, breweries and breakfast places as well as the farmers market and only 3 miles to downtown. to get there you can easily jump on public transport or just Uber it! Its very quick to all the San Diego “must-sees” like the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park, as well as the sun-drenched beaches that make us famous.
Stay in or head out; eat, drink and play in North Park or downtown in the Gaslamp; relax on the balcony, in front of the fireplace or enjoy the sweeping views. And most importantly - have fun! (And let me know how I can help.)
Bedrooms include 1 with a queen-size bed and the other one with a queen and a pull out twin (makes a king) . The big sofa sleeps 2 more (e.g. Kids) for up to 8 guests total - perfect for multi-family trips and couples getaways. You can pack light: there’s a coin-operated washer and dryer in the basement.
Viva California was designed to be lively, colorful, and inviting, with its own California flavor. Take your morning coffee to the balcony, which has an amazing view of North Park. Gather for a BBQ in the backyard (shared with the other two units) with a BBQ grill, outdoor seating, yard games. Or cook inside: the kitchen is fully equipped and stocked as completely as my own kitchen at home.
Other goodies at the apartment: Free WiFi throughout and a flat-screen TV with Netflix.
My neighborhood, North Park, is one of San Diego’s most historic and funky places to be. It's home to artists, local businesses, a Farmers Market, craft beer, wine bars, sushi spots, handmade ice cream, and your pick of brunch options. Guests love North Park’s neighborhood vibe, even though it’s just 3 miles from downtown and The Gaslamp. Century-old architecture and the ringing of church bells during the day in North Park add to its historic feel. And my house fits right in!
No need to worry about a car. You have your pick of coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques just a few blocks away. Easy public transport is just around the corner, taking you to downtown and all places San Diego. Uber rides are quick and convenient, too, getting you into downtown in less than 5 minutes.
The neighborhood is super walkable with tons of bars and restaurants in walking distance as well as supermarket and public transportation.
if you are bringing a car, there is free street parking in front of the house, it does get a bit tight at night, but you can easily find a spot during the day.
NOTE: North Park is a residential neighborhood and is not appropriate for parties. Small and quiet gatherings are fine; just be sure to let me know in advance if you plan to invite guests who are not included in your reservation and keep the noise down at all times. Security cameras - and our friends/neighbors - will alert us to unauthorized visitors.
The apartment is air-conditioned and features a kitchen and a balcony, and there's space to spread out with 2 bedrooms and a dining area. Guests can enjoy a Smart TV and stay connected with free WiFi. Other standard amenities include a washing machine, a fireplace, and a coffee maker.

Some good some very bad
Tone deaf would be my first comment.
The good:
The kitchen and bath remodels were very nice. The beds were very comfortable. It is a charming property. Probably built in the 1920's. We love old homes. The original door knobs and door hardware is great to see.
The disturbing:
Automated emails regarding contacting the owners when zero response occurs.
Most VRBO's have things like beach chairs, coolers, etc. But this place lists rental charges for a simple fold out beach chair? For $9.00 each? Really? Baby gear? A high chair for $15.00? Among many other listed things.
The back yard with propane grills and lawn furniture was absolutely filthy.
When they suggested I request 2 hours earlier check in for $15.00, I did so. But, they never responded.
When checking out, they asked that we do not leave a review, unless it was 5 star. Well the property and service was not 5 star.
I suggested that I would leave no review, but sent them an email suggesting how they could improve. No response except for another automated email asking for a 5 star review and how it would hurt them if I left anything different. Again, it was a 3 star at best.
My email to them went like this:
"I understand a 4 or 3 star review would hurt. I will not leave any review since we do not wish to cause you a problem.
I've owned rentals, long term, since 1980. However, even short term rentals are not all that different as it relates.... Now you shut my comments off? Okay

A wonderful month-long San Diego sojourn
We had such a lovely time during our 1 month stay in SD! The place is well situated and fit our remote working needs very nicely. We had our 2 cats with us and they settled right in too and had a comfortable stay. The place is very nicely located to a lot of cafes, restaurants, and grocery stores, and just blocks away from the Sunday Hillcrest farmer's market which was fabulous! The check in process was super smooth, the place is in good condition, and Doreen was super responsive to our questions and minor repairs. We would definitely stay here again!
