Explore the Charms of Lion’s Head
Nestled along the scenic Bruce Peninsula, Lion’s Head is a welcoming village that blends striking natural beauty with relaxed small-town charm. Set against the crystal-clear waters of Georgian Bay, the area is best known for its dramatic limestone cliffs rising above the shoreline, creating one of the peninsula’s most iconic landscapes.
Outdoor adventure is at the heart of Lion’s Head. The Bruce Trail passes directly through the village, offering some of the region ’s most rewarding hikes along the Niagara Escarpment, with sweeping views of the bay below. Georgian Bay’s clear waters invite swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, and boating, while the marina becomes a lively summer gathering place where visitors can watch boats come and go or head out on the water themselves.
Lion’s Head also has a strong sense of community and local culture. Quaint shops, local artisans, and cozy cafés make it easy to spend a relaxed afternoon exploring the village. The seasonal farmers’ market is a highlight, offering fresh produce, handmade goods, and a taste of local life.
Evenings are best spent at Lion’s Head Beach, where both locals and visitors gather to watch the sun set over the bay in vibrant colour. The nearby observatory and dark skies make stargazing a favourite nighttime activity and a peaceful way to end the day.
Just 35 minutes north, Tobermory offers another layer of adventure, including Flowerpot Island and Fathom Five National Marine Park, famous for its shipwrecks, clear water, and diving opportunities.
Many visitors notice the striking aqua colour of Georgian Bay. This effect is caused by light refracting through calcite crystals formed as calcium carbonate leaches from the dolostone escarpment. These tiny crystals bend light in a unique way, producing the vivid hues that make the area so memorable and highlight the fascinating geology of the Niagara Escarpment.

A great family getaway
The view was beautiful with the lions head cliffs in the bay, and the still water of Georgian bay. The cottage was well kept and every thing we needed for a kitchen was there. The beds were clean and well kept. The bathrooms were nice. The hot tub was terrific and the sauna was very enjoyable though it does take an hour to heat it up with wood. We enjoyed having campfires on the lake as well. Everything we needed wasn’t far away in Lions head. The hiking on the Bruce trail was very good and close by, and the hike to the grotto was very nice aswell and only a short drive away.
