I liked the lush vegetation, location of the room and having a balcony, refrigerator and safe. Didn’t like neighbours smoking beside and under me. I lived with second had smoke 7 of my 14 days. Smoking was also too close to dining area as well as smokers walking right past my table with lit cigarettes no matter where I chose to sit. Smokers prevented me from spending much time at the bar since most of it permitted smoking.

The people are great. The food was okay. The decor needs updating. The bed was awful! Very old, no padding and could feel the springs. The buildings are beginning to show signs of disrepair. The drinks were included but in child-sized cups. Certainly not a well stocked bar. Didn't even have tonic, but when I requested it they got a small bottle that lasted part of the week. Great location on the beach. Great price, hotel just okay. We go to Jamaica to walk the beach. That part was amazing.

Best All-Inclusive VALUE Ever! JMAC
The property was clean and basic but, as an all-inclusive, extremely well done and a great value. The staff was SUPERIOR with the exception of the front desk that handled your questions with disinterest and a 'Frog Face' ... the first thing that came to mind (exception of Stacey-Ann & Shana). The 'front lines' of the hotel and the worst on the staff. When I brought this up to other staff, I heard the common response, "We hear that all the time ... they are even rude to us". BUT the main purpose of this revue is to give this Hotel a major THUMBS UP for the VALUE of the experience and to celebrate the rest of the awesome staff. At the beachfront restaurants and bars was were the charm began. Big 'shout out' to Tamar, Stanley, Andrew, Marlon, Orville, Donavon and Chef Leason Anderson that were ... simply SUPERIOR! The food was carefully prepared within the food cost budget of the hotel and the dishes that represented the Jamaican cuisine very good. The vegetables were fresh and the fruits locally grown as well. The Red Stripe beer was cold and the hot Jamaican Mountain coffee is some of the best in the world! The happy smiling bartenders also made some amazing fresh fruit and Jamaican rum drinks that were super solid and on par with any of the higher prices all-inclusives on the island. JMAC

A microcosm of Negril.
Arrived and was immediately taken up to my room. I hate AC so I opened all the windows to let the balmy, soothing air in and they stayed that way for the entire week. In every instance I felt safe, secure, the security is paramountly important for a woman traveling alone and never was there any question of my safety at any time. The housemen and every member of the staff is warm, friendly, accommodating in every instance, everyone going out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. My room was immaculate and I can't give enough compliments to the people who work at the Merril's I where I stayed.

The food was not so good. There was hardly any variety and very basic. lunch time was the worse , I came late once and ended up eating cold chips and chicken wings. They didn't have much cultural food neither and food was always cold. The cocktails were nice but not much variety.
The resort is on a public beach where you'll find a lot of people trying to sell things or take you on exertions or men just hollering at you. This can be very annoying when you are trying to sunbath. Choose another resort.

16 Days in Negril
I found my stay at Merrils 1 to be very good overall. The room I stayed in was right next to the kitchen and it was quite loud at times. The room was "updated" but the curtains, lamp shade and furnishings were a bit shabby. The staff was friendly although I still found some would take advantage given half a chance. The food was good. Security overall was above average. I appreciated their watchfulness. I would recommend staying here the price is reasonable. The beach is beautiful and overall the grounds were well cared for. I decided to extend my stay and they were very accommodating.

Great location
Love Negril, have been vacationing there for years. Located about midpoint on 7 mile beach so is accessible to everything. Staff is friendly, food was good and varied. Will definitely go back.

I was assigned to room # 210 which had no soap dish anywhere in the bathroom, no towel bar for hanging towels almost no water pressure in lavitory faucet and unstable water tempreture in shower. in the midst of a warm shower comes a burst of cold water, very unacceptable.

Great staff and location. This place is not fancy. It has great basic fresh food, not a huge variety but always - nice grilled fish, jerk chicken, fresh veg , soup and salad and a starch at every meal. No kid freindly food except for at breakfast- no nuggets, fries etc. If you have done an all inclusive in Europe this is very similar. As a matter of fact when we were there the place was mostly full of Italians. I was told they are making Merrils 1 exclusivly for an Italian tour operator. Merrils 2 has a small pool and Merrils 3 has a bar on the beach and chaise pads. All 3 are on the beach a few yards from each other. All have a slightly different buffet each day. Go to 1 for a salad then you can go to the next for the main course if you like. They always had plenty of food. Ask for towels at the front desk- they are not fancy either.

Perfect location and a lot of smiles!
Great location and wonderful staff. If you look for a top class All Inclusive with gourmet food, maybe you should look somewhere else. But if you want a friendly place where you can be yourself on a perfect location with generous and well prepared food together with a big smile and kindness to a good price, this is the place! With three different Merrills nearby, you can choose one of them for food or drinks, depending on your mood for music or quitness, perfect. And you can feel totally safe since there are nice and friendly guards in the premisses.

First time experience
I enjoy the hotel the food,but my experience was salted by one member of the staff. Security accused me of having external guest in my room after hours. I explained that they had left the property by they did no believed me. Management said they would deal with the situation. I am hopeful.

Covers Your Basic Needs
I went to Merrils on a girls weekend and chose Merrils based on reviews, location, and price. My experience was that this hotel provided the basic needs but not anything more. The room was basic and adequate. It has 2 beds- 1 twin and 1 double. The maid service was good and staff in the restaurant and bar were pleasant and friendly. The overall facility was a bit run down and not very organized. We had to come back almost every time for fresh towels because they would run out. The pool at Merrils 2 was closed while we were there. The kayaks were also "not available" that week for some reason. Overall the food was tasty but the overall selection was not great. Also we read that there would be entertainment 2 times per week and when we inquired it was reduced to just Saturday night. Overall communication was lacking as well. We had to ask numerous times when and where things take place.
