Red Roof Inn Birmingham South
4/5 Good
"The pros: very clean & roomy with hair dryer and a nice TV. The cons: the bed was a little lumpy and uneven and would sink on the edges. A new firmer mattress is needed. The fridge had no freezer which made it difficult for us since we were traveling 2,500 miles cross country and had our food in a cooler w/ ice packs. But Roxanne was kind enough to put our freezer packs in a freezer in a different rm. We were told that none of the fridges had freezers which was interesting bec/ this was the first hotel which we stayed in that did not have a freezer in the fridge. We had a little hiccup when a fuse blew in the rm and cut off the electricity to both the fridge & the microwave. So we couldn't use them after that. The mini fridge was particularly important for us since we were carrying medicine that needed to be refrigerated. We noticed that the light switch next to the front door controlled not only the light in the room but also seemed to control the microwave and fridge. If this were the case, it seemed like there was not enough amperage. The rm also could definitely have used more light, esp. since the only way to get any additional light in the room was to open the heavy curtains which completely blocked out all light. The hotel should consider putting in some gossamer curtains to allow the clientele to have privacy from outsiders looking in and at the same time to give natural light into the rm. All things considered, I still would recommend this hotel. ."
