There was no formal check-in process, which was unfortunate because it would have been nice to meet the host and get instruction on the clearly complicated hot-tub/pool heating system (basically, the guest has to decide between heating the hot-tub OR the pool, because the heating system doesn’t allow for simultaneous heating of each. This situation wasn’t clear from the guest-book in the house—which we read thoroughly—nor was the actual mechanics needed to toggle between each mode, which required knowing to push a certain button labeled “1” on the hot-tub…also information not contained in the guest book). Ultimately, this situation was sorted out, but it took a couple of days of back and forth with the host to figure it out, including a call directly between the host, myself, and the pool-guy, none of which I wanted to do on my vacation and all of which could have been avoided with a better check-in process and more detailed guest book. **Advice to future renters: get the check-in (which I actually planned on, but was told ‘wasn’t necessary’; ultimately host agreed “yes, the check-in in person was probably the way to go”).Next issue was just the overall poor cleanliness of the place, which was 3/5 star at best. Hair left in the bathrooms from prior guests, dirt and grit in the plastic silverware container in the kitchen drawer, and old plastic bottles and dust bunnies from prior guests swept under the beds were just a few of the unfortunate encounters left for us.
