My family of 11 planned this trip to the beautiful island of St. Maarten for a year. The island did not disappoint. Maho and Mullet Bay beach were amazing as expected. We selected Sonesta for the views and their other accommodations. The locals are beautiful people. However, “the friendly island,” was unfriendly to most of us at one point or another during our stay in the Sonesta. We greeted the waitresses and other resort staff with respect. In return on several occasions we were greeted with rude gestures, questions, comments, and eye rolls. As black people, this was shocking, disheartening, and disappointing. We felt unwelcomed

Hotel was nice but it needs to do some upgrades. The bathrooms needs a major upgrade when you take a shower the water wets up the floor. I suggest they put a full shower door. Food is ok. The breakfast was the best.

Property is 5 min from airport. The check in is fast, lobby is clean and everyone is helpful. We stayed on 8th floor and had an ocean view balcony. Room was clean, updated, nice space, amenities and the a/c worked all the time. Shower pressure was great with a waterfall showerhead. Plenary of American electrical outlets. Beautiful views from balcony. Pool was clean. Ocean was sandy, no rocks on entrance, but only about a dozen unbrellas. The whole resort was clean. The food was fantastic! the Italian restaurant was our favorite. Drinks were made very well and fast. Medium sized resort. Will book here again!

Entertainment at night wasn’t very good. Some staff members were rude. Other staff members were very friendly. Property was very clean and room was spacious.

The view from my room was great... I saw the sun rise over the mountains every morning and the beach was beautiful .

The first room, they tried to check me into reeked with the smell of mold and sewage. I had to get a different room. There was also mold in the shower and other areas of that room as well. Luckily, I was only spending one night. I used to stay there all the time, but over the last few years it has gone downhill

The resort is in the most spectacular location ever with a beautiful beach and 3 min walk from the plane spotting experience at Maho Beach as well. The hotel itself had a good food and drinks, however we were a little disappointed with the service from some staff. The best people were at the pool bar.

When we did the pre check in we were told we would get notified when our room was ready. We received notification to proceed directly to desk upon arrival as our room would be ready. It was not ready until after 3: . Not a big deal. The property itself is very pretty. Most of the staff seemed like you were bothering them, whether it was ordering a drink or sitting down to eat, it was like we were inconveniencing them , yet we left over $400 in tips throughout our 5 day stay even though tips were included. There were some very lovely people though, Jane at breakfast was a standout. Also, a lot of the guests, maybe because they were frustrated by what I just explained or because they’re just flat out rude, were terrible to the staff. So maybe that’s why the staff isn’t so excited or enthusiastic to help. Either way unfortunately it’s the business. The Italian restaurant was our best experience staff and food wise. Oh and our view was literally on a roof. Literally on a roof. Worst view I’ve ever had in any hotel, and the resort was clearly not booked.

I arrived early knowing the room would likely not be ready. I told the agent I had no issue with waiting, but was sent to a room that was still occupied and guests still in it. The manager assisted with a new room and made sure the room was not occupied. The property is convenient to airport, restaurants, and other local businesses.
