We have stayed for almost a week before taking a short break and planning to return for another week. The hospitality is what sets Taj Bengal apart from the rest of the innumerable 5 star hotels. Everyone is eager to please, immensely respectful and welcoming. The concierge Mr. Sanjib Ghosh has done the impossible of even getting me a premium ticket for an international India – England T20, cricket match against all odds. The night manager Mr. Tanmoy was able to extend my stay for 2 additional nights (in a full hotel!), the sous chef Kavita was attentive to everyone and the morning buffet breakfast was so enjoyable. The main restaurant Sonargaon is par excellence in ambience, decor and food, albeit a bit expensive. This is truly one of the best Bengali restaurant I have ever been to. We didn’t use the gym or the spa. But again, what sets the Taj apart is the hospitality which money cannot buy in America.

Taj failing to keep their promise

The hotel looks rundown and old. The bathroom looks like a dorm room stall while people are busy in the front desk. They’re unable to execute their task properly in this trip. I have stayed at Goa, Kolkata and kuseong, each one of the top experiences was not what I expected rooms with dirty towels beds that had plywood stuck in them Car Service that was ordered, but no one showed up and never picked up the phone scheduling Car Service Sf that go away took several calls throughout the day booking online on the taj.com. Site is a disaster. I can keep going on and on in the last two years of state of many Taj and it seems like that with the influx of Indian tourism. The Taj hotels cannot keep up with their standards. I stayed at the over in Bombay and I noticed that their customer service was much better than the Taj

The service is absolutely exceptional. Every member of the staff has a pleasant smile and a heartfelt “Namaste” no matter whether you are in the dining areas, hallways or poolside. True Taj hospitality! They go out of their way to take care of every need the guests may have. It is an excellent colonial style property, beautiful Taj ambiance, well maintained lawns, great dining options and exceptional service from ALL staff. Arijeet at Junction x, Rajesh in housekeeping, and Anirban at Cal 27 consistently went over and beyond. The hotel carpet and certain other furnishings need urgent remodeling, but there was nothing else that I can fault.

The Oasis & Gem of Calcutta

If you’re coming to Calcutta for pleasure to have long days of sight-seeing, eating, and walking for hours through this amazing dense city, the Taj will the perfect oasis to come back to I had a fantastic stay for 4 days and besides the beautiful rooms, restaurants, and lovely..endless breakfasts, it’s the staff and their care to ensure you have a wonderful stay as well as to help you get whatever you need and wherever you go.
