Sentimental Journey is in the best location, far enough away from the bustle of KDH but close enough to shopping in Duck and the Harris Teeter in Corolla. Its oceanfront location can't be beat and is the epitome of why you come to Duck. The house has "great bones", but unfortunately, like many old workhorses she has been ridden hard and put away wet. It really shows its age. The windows looking out from the top level to the beach are full of permafrost and condensation eliminating almost 50% of the view from several of the windows. The sliding doors from the living area to the front deck and the front bedrooms are almost impossible to open having warped frames and filthy bottom sills. Many of the screen doors are coming apart or torn. Upon our arrival we found a few dinner plates were soiled as well as the cutlery and measuring cups all of which we had to wash before use. Some of the electrical outlets were coming out of the wall and some did not work at all. The air intake of the range hood was filthy and caked with grease. The railings above the kitchen were full of cobwebs. The rug in the main living area is dirty, old and coming up on its corners. We were greeted by several dead wasps and a palmetto bug near the front windows in the great room. What few pot holders and dish towels were provided were all old and dirty, all of which we tried to wash. The few bath towels provided were sub standard.
