Good spot in the Old Town

Busy location but minimal noise disturbance at night - at least from the street...air con unit was very noisy and had limited effectiveness. Room comfortable for the most part - one narrow window with views of a all and rooftops mainly. Extremely helpful staff on reception - especially Johnny + Rick. Good breakfast and excellent restaurant staff.

Hotel is nicely located in the heart of Old Quarters; nightlife spots are all a stone’s throw away. We booked a Sapa tour through the hotel which was a fantastic experience. The logistics and transport for the tour were all taken care of properly. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Fantastic hotel

Pleasant hotel in the Old Quarter of Hanoi

The Essence d'Orient is a pleasant hotel in the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Staff are warm and friendly. It's not too pricey despite the good location, but there are lots of little cozy touches -- welcome drinks and fruit, tastefully styled room, and even a laptop in the room to borrow. I only stayed for one night during a business trip, but the hotel upgraded me to a room with a better city view. Very pleasant hotel with some character!

Second stay at Essence. Still great location and service but price is getting a bit uncompetitive with similar hotels.

The hotel is conveniently located in close proximity to bars, restaurants, cafes and shops. The staffs at the hotel were super friendly and helpful. During our stay, the hotel had a spa promotion of buy one get one free spa from 1 ~ 4 PM, and we booked the romance package. It was a great deal and the spa staff demonstrated great skills. Highly recommend it! All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Essence Hotel.

Amazing hotel

Great hotel and brilliant staff they couldn’t do enough for us. The room was spotless massive comfy bed pillows etc. we had everything we needed. It’s bang in the centre of the old part of Hanoi next to beer corner. Even though we were in the centre the hotel wasn’t noisy at all. We lived out stay and will definitely be back. This is the fourth hotel we have stayed in around this area and definitely the beat

Best location and modern rooms

This hotel is in the heart of the old quarter right by beer corner (however, we couldn't hear any noise from our rooms). The hotel has just been refurbished and you can really tell. We've stayed in another 2 hotels in the old quarter and even though they were also great, they did feel a little out dated (especially the bathrooms). Essence however was brand new and roomsa a generous size. The best thing though is location as we were able to come back throughout the day for naps and drop off shopping without much detour.

Great hotel in old quarter

Staff is super helpful to seemingly do whatever you wanted - change out mattress pads, book trips, lend laptops, hold luggage when away etc. Loved the location in the old quarter but be prepared that the streets are very busy and the street in front of the hotel turns into small eating and drinking places at night. We loved it but others may not if they want quiet and solitude. Had no problem with noise in the rooms at night.

Great Location in the heart of the old quartel.

Good hotel however located in the middle of a very busy street especially at night. Tables and chairs everywhere. If you like to eat VN food at night, this is the place for you. Staff over attentive and that could be a bit of a challenge. Breakfast very good and room very comfortable.

Great Hotel in the heart of it all

The location is 2nd to none... Literally in the heart of the action. The street noise can be a bit much so if you want a quieter room, ask for a room on a higher floor (but there is only one elevator in each block of the hotel... So while the room is quieter up high, you have to wait for elevator). The staff are very helpful and can arrange great recommendations for local restaurants abd tours. Don't be afraid to try the street food. As for the hotel itself, it has a nice spa (massages are decently priced but you are also paying for a nicer setting) and the café is great. The included breakfast is wide ranging with both western and Asian options and the service staff are great for the breakfasts.

Amazing Hotel

This hotel is incredible, mostly because the people who work here will stop at nothing to ensure that their guests are happy. We had a slight problem with our air-conditioner in our first room, and the manager happily moved us to a second room, which, as it turned out, had been sprayed with an air freshener I was allergic to. They moved us a second time, very kindly, and to make up for the hassles, they brought us a little treat of hot ginger tea with honey and cookies in our room the night we settled in. Everyone was just so wonderful and took any concern we had as their own, worked until they got it right, and so much was right to begin with: comfortable beds, great location on the weekend walking street and near the lake, excellent made-to-order breakfast along with scrumptious buffet, help with all of our outings, from a night on the town to a trip to Sa Pa. It's a great hotel. Some of the rooms in the older half are a little musty (hence the spray, and much of Hanoi is a bit damp, so I imagine you will run into this in a lot of places) but this can be fixed by telling them at booking that you're sensitive and they'll put you in a newer room. They will take your worries very seriously and do anything to make you happy. We liked this hotel so much we used it as a home base throughout our several weeks in northern Vietnam and stayed in its sister hotels when we could. Do not hesitate to book!

Very attentive staff

Hotel is well located in a busy part of the old city. Despite the street noise our room was super quiet. Breakfasts were good as was the dinner we had one night. Staff we very attentive which made our stay hassle free
