Room was filthy and had what appeared to be blood stains on the bedding. Desk staff was rude and/or unattentive,nthe toilet wasn’t working, walls were stained and damaged, floor had stains, it smelled bad, stains in the shower, leftover food sitting in the fridge in the room when we arrived, just gross. Upon check in, my card was “declined” but I was still charged and I showed the front desk person and what I got was “I don’t have your money”. So I had her run my card again and it went through, so I was double charged, and I tried to talk to the front desk and she didn’t want to hear it. But the real issues I have are with cleanliness and the rudeness of the staff. I’ve used Choice Hotels frequently over the years but this stay at the Maquoketa IA Econolodge was very unpleasant.

I stayed at this hotel recently, and honestly, it was a rough experience. The room was labeled non-smoking, but it definitely didn’t smell like it — the smoke smell was strong and lingering, like no one had even tried to clean it properly. Cleanliness in general was a problem. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom, and the room looked like it hadn’t been given more than a quick once-over. Dusty surfaces, questionable smells, and a general sense that no one really checks these rooms thoroughly before guests arrive. The breakfast was another letdown. The selection was really limited, and worse — some of the items were either moldy or well past their expiration dates. I couldn’t believe it. Ended up grabbing coffee elsewhere just to be safe. The only real positive? The bed. It was surprisingly comfortable, and I actually slept well. But that alone isn’t enough to make up for everything else. Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re in a pinch and bringing your own supplies — and maybe breakfast too.

This is a reasonably priced place. Bare bones, no extras, breakfast is skimpy. Sometimes we check if all lights are working inside. But we like the price and location so use it frequently.

I wrote a whole Facebook post about how nasty and unsafe it is. I’ve also requested a full refund. Problems included old food and filth in the kitchen area and a non-resident with a machete let himself in through the unsecured second floor back entrance and relaxed in the furniture that is next to the vending machine.

Maintenance man was great other than that staff was terrible door to hotel would not lock got to room second room the door was open tv blasting lights the floor was so sticky and filthy 100 channels no espn or fox sports and tv had to reset to work anymore breakfast look terrible and after how filthy the place was i wasn't going to take a chance on eating there second tine at a econo lodge same results never again

Check in process took 35 minutes due to key not working. A few hours later, we received a call- could not hear through the phone very well- the front desk was calling to check our names and room number. We were told we couldn't walk to room from front door, but had to park by side door. Building and business is obviously being worked on.

This hotal stank of incense everywhere. There was no hot water in the mornings to shower with. There was mold and hair all over the shower walls. The counter & sink were dirty and covered in hair. The shower curtain was stained. The bedding only has a sheet and bed cover. No large comforter or blanket. This has to be one of the worst hotels i have ever stayed in.

The rooms are good size and have needed items. The hotel smelled heavy of smoke even though no smoking is allowed. Possibly caused by fire In The kitchen. Breakfast not eatable. But McDonald’s is next door. They don’t clean the rooms during your stay tge price was reasonable

Worst stay ever!!!

Worst hotel I've ever stayed at. At 11pm I was awoken by someone hammering nails.below my room. When I complained the front desk said they heard it as well but wasn't sure what was going on. Mo Miraculously it stopped. Midnight several dogs barking. 530 the same. I would have been better off sleeping in my truck

Door didnt latch and when i asked for a new room i was told i coud lock it from inside. Staff irritated when i said that was not ok with me. Reserved king room but stayed in 2 queens because there were no more kings left. Room however was great, very comfortable and quiet. Breakfast needs more.

Tried to contact to front desk. No one could be found. Prior to calling for a late check in the person who answered didn’t sound confident about a late check in. I called from the room that was given to ask why we didn’t have any hot water and no one picked up the phone. I walked down to the desk and no one was present. Door peep hole was covered with a napkin and tape. The smoke detector was coming off the wall and there was a dry wall area that was not painted.
