Lovely location

Great location, nice pool. Hotel room was small and comfortable but for the pillows but we managed with the bed cushions. We also had a little balcony which was excellent. Good breakfast and the coffee was very nice. The night watchman even went out of his way and made us coffee on our 5am departure. Only suggestion would be some tea bags, milk etc and a kettle in the room.

Amazing hotel but with basic flaws

Lovely hotel opulently decorated. The first receptionist was efficient but unhelpful almost to the point of being rude. The second receptionist was lovely. We had to repeatedly ask for the air conditioning to be turned on as the room was stuffy when we first entered and they turned it off several times. The shower access was unacceptably small. Good location the town was very quiet when we visited on 1st Oct and most of it was shut down.

Home base for discovery

There are lots of things to do in and near Bolsena. The walk from the hotel into town was easy and our favorite restaurant was Trattoria da Picchietto. It was cool and rainy so we didn't do anything at the lake, but it was very pretty.

Great if you don't mind sarcastic receptionist

Very good, comfortable hotel. Only affected adversely by the uppity madam on reception- when I asked where I could find the dining room "You have to ask me! It's there!" I then asked her to rearrange her attitude as I had only asked a civil question. Breakfast was usual continental cheese/meat affair. Woeful choice of fresh fruit, mouldy orange and bashed pear.

Nice hotel - water views - nice little town

It’s an older hotel in a very good location right across from the beach. They provided free off-street & secure parking. The hotel is very clean but small single beds are very hard - and bathroom has the worlds smallest shower. The front desk lady is very pleasant recommended a good local restaurant for dinner. The breakfast was included and offered a complete assortment of tasty items.

Picturesque and romantic! Royal service too.

Was far beyond our expectations, from checking in, to the spectacular breakfast after a good nights rest. The picturesque setting of Hotel Royal is like something out of a classic movie and the decor and 5 star service were superb! Definitely will return here some day.

We booked this hotel as my husband had grown up watching people come and go when he visited Bolsena as a child. Unfortunately it didn't live up to our expectations. The rooms were spotlessly clean but the air conditioning didn't work in our first room. The breakfast staff were lovely and helpful in spite of having to tolerate being spoken to as though they were idiots by some of the other guests. The bar wasn't open until about 5 pm or later so when we checked in we couldn't get a drink whilst getting our bearings. There were no services related to the pool, you had to take your own towel and drinks weren't available. As a family we felt that we had to keep our little girl quiet. They did however swap our double and single bed room for one with a separate room for our 3 year old, but why wasn't this offered to us in the first place though. The hotel is overall dated, a bit stuffy and lacking in services. We won't stay again.
