Rustic House in the Tehuacan-Cuicatlan Biosphere Reserve
"I booked this house in November and paid the full price then. When I contacted the host the day before we arrived she told me her family was staying there and didn't remember my reservation. Then she said we could share the house with her family. We had no other option for accommodation and had a rental car and planned to explore the area for 4 days. When we arrived the family was not there, but I had paid for the entire house and two separate bedrooms. One was locked and we had to sleep in the same room. There were no windows, only a screened opening in the bedroom and it is right on the highway so traffic noise was really loud. Dogs barked all night and it was very difficult to sleep, and we got dozens of mosquito bites. The woman who greeted us was very nice, as was the woman who brought us tasty meals, because the town is very poor and partly abandoned and we could only find beer and soft drinks and poor quality food to buy for the kitchen. Vrbo does not allow sharing a house so it did not really qualify as a Vrbo rental. The host offered us an extra day but we had reservations in Oaxaca and had to return the rental car and didn't want to stay any longer. I was offered a partial refund but after we left I never heard from the host again and she did not respond to a number of messages from Vrbo or me. It was very expensive for a place with only a long table and plastic chairs for furnishing. The screens have cardboard over them. I can't recommend staying here"
