With vaccinations so easy to access now in the U.S. and more and more destinations opening up, many people are starting to put all their pent-up wanderlust into action with a long overdue island vacay! Travel rules in the Caribbean can still be a little tricky to navigate, with varying requirements like proof of vaccine, proof of a negative COVID-19 test, or in some cases, mandatory quarantine. However, as long as you follow the protocol, there are a lot of great reasons to dig out your passport and dust off those flip flops—just be sure to check Orbitz’s Covid Travel Advisor tool for the most up-to-date travel restrictions before you book. Turks & Caicos

Have you heard tales about the whitest sands and bluest waters in the Caribbean? In this department, Turks & Caicos almost unanimously steals the show. The beloved archipelago consists of 40 coral islands, each with blinding white sands and piercing shades of turquoise. The flight to Providenciales is just over an hour from Miami, so gather your top travel companions and head down to this storybook locale. For a nice private house rental, book this 2-bedroom ocean front villa with its own private pool and dock. This rental is particularly ideal for those who love to fish, as it sits right next some shallow tidal pools that serve as a haven for the elusive bonefish. Turks & Caicos requires proof of a negative PCR test (taken within 5 days of arrival) and proof of travel insurance to be uploaded into an online portal for approval before arrival.

St. Lucia

St. Lucia’s topography consists of iconic mountains that jut straight out of the sea in dramatic  fashion. Lush mountainside jungles give way to beautiful sugar-sand beaches and quiet pristine coves. In one day you can hike to a magical waterfall, zip line through the forest canopy, and kick back on a secluded beach with just you and your favorite book. Reserve this charming and Covid-19 certified  pastel pink waterfront apartment for your stay. In order to visit St. Lucia, you must stay at a hotel or vacation rental that is Covid-19 certified by the government. Before arrival, you’ll need to submit a travel registration form and provide proof of a negative Covid-19 test take within 5 days of travel.

Puerto Rico

Stick to the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico and you won’t even need to dust off that passport! San Juan is one of the easiest Caribbean destinations to fly in to, and there’s an abundance of great, charming hotels in city’s Old San Juan area, just 15 minutes from the airport. Book a room at Palacio Provincial in the heart of Old San Juan, and spend your days at the beach or exploring local shops, before heading back to the hotel’s garden-filled terrace to sip rum punch high above the cobblestone streets. Puerto Rico requires a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of arrival, and travelers must fill out a Travel Declaration Form via an online portal for entry approval. When returning to the US mainland, a negative covid test is not required since Puerto Rico is a US territory.

Jamaica

Jamaica is an island packed with personality that combines lazy, relaxing beach days with spirited nightlife. Reggae music provides the soundtrack for this beautiful, carefree destination. Head over to the western side of the island, where the waters are shallow and calm, and book this Stunning Ocean View Home in the town of Negril. The colorful townhouse lies in a private beach area and is easily walkable to the Negril Lighthouse. Jamaica requires proof of a negative PCR test or Antigen test (taken within 3 days of arrival), and travelers must complete an online Travel Authorization between 2 and 5 days of arrival.

Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is one of the largest and most diverse destinations in the Caribbean. Consider venturing away from the many all-inclusive resorts along the country’s southern coast and set your home base on the ruggedly beautiful northern coast. Here you’ll find a more local vibe, lush tropical terrain, and lively beaches. The town of Cabarete is world-famous for its kite-surfing. You can get a front row view of the action by booking this perfectly-located 3-bedroom beach condo. The Dominican Republic recently eliminated the requirement to show proof of a negative Covid-19 test. Instead, travelers simply have to fill out a Traveler’s Health Affidavit and have their temperature checked upon arrival.

Aruba

The long stretches of sparking white sands and hot, dry island feel of Aruba draw visitors back time and again, making it one of the most visited destinations in the Caribbean. Whether you’re looking to snorkel, windsurf, kite-board, or ride horses along the beach at sunset, Aruba has a prime beach setting for every activity, as well as a range of accommodations to pick from. Book this 2-bedroom ocean view condo at Eagle Beach for an ideal location and perfect sunset views. The condo also offers additional savings for those looking to book a longterm stay. To visit Aruba, visitors are required to provide proof of a negative covid test and travel insurance, and fill out an embarkation card within 72 hours of travel. Travelers may opt to take a Covid test upon arrival, instead; however, they must quarantine at their place of stay until a negative result is returned.
