We’re all familiar with the iconic ball drop in New York City on New Year’s Eve. Flipping on the TV just before midnight to countdown the final moments of the year has become appointment viewing for generations of people, but Times Square isn’t the only US city to have a great time in on New Year’s Eve. Try something new this year and start 2017 with an adventure of your own.

This one’s especially fun for families, though Disney World on New Year’s Eve should be on everyone’s bucket list. Magic Kingdom, Epcot and Hollywood Studios all stay open until midnight with special fireworks and celebrations centered around the holiday. A countdown clock at Epcot is even illuminated on the iconic ball attraction, and the evening is capped off with a pyrotechnic display. Spend the day eating your way through the World Showcase and enjoying the warm weather.

Music City celebrates New Year’s Eve in the most fitting way possible—with a huge, over-the-top night of live music from top country stars. This year Keith Urban is scheduled to headline the Jack Daniel’s Music City Midnight: New Year’s Eve in Nashville. Thousands of people attend this event every year and this year the fireworks display will be against a breathtaking view of the Nashville skyline. If all that doesn’t leave you too starstruck, be sure to check out the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Portland is known for its active nightlife and bar scene, which makes this hip city a perfect New Year’s Eve destination. There are parties going on all over the city, including the 26th Annual Champagne Ball, which features three dance floors and 17 bars. For something less party and more playful check out Vote for Dancing at the Roseland Theater, an event that aims to bring people from across the community together through dance. Kick off your trip with a walk through Washington Park to admire the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

The famous French Quarter and epicenter of New Orlean’s party scene is always a fun time, and even more so on New Year’s Eve. People fill the streets and head to Jackson Square to celebrate the new year with music, drinks and fireworks. If partying gets the best of you, indulge in a hearty breakfast at The Ruby Slipper the next morning – you’ve earned it.

Las Vegas is the ultimate party town, so it’s no surprise they put together a great night on New Year’s Eve. The city’s closes down the iconic Strip, transforming the area into one big block party with more than 300,000 expected attendees. Nearby casinos choreograph an amazing fireworks display at midnight. If you have some extra time to enjoy Sin City, check out The Mob Museum to learn about Las Vegas’ history of organized crime.

This Midwestern city has something on New Year’s Eve for everyone. If you are celebrating with children, catch the beautiful fireworks display at the Navy Pier on Lake Michigan. Last year Chicago started a new tradition, Chi-Town Rising, along the riverfront. The city illuminates an ascending star downtown that climbs higher as midnight approaches to symbolize rising to challenges in the New Year. Want to get fit in the New Year?
