There’s only one word that properly sums up Glacier National Park, and that word is – EPIC! Butted up against Canada in the northern half of Montana, massive Glacier National Park showcases mountains filling the landscape and literally dividing the continent. It’s a land carved by glaciers and craggy mountains thrust high into the air. Glacier National Park is a place that’s just hard to describe with adjectives, because most just don’t stack up to the grand scale of the park. Once you visit, you’ll understand but until then, here is a collection of photos from the park to inspire your next trip.

The park’s most prominent feature is the road that winds its way over the mountains and the continental divide called the “Going to the Sun Road.” How’s that for epic? Living up to its name, there are times this road makes you feel like you may actually be on your way to the sun (or at least another planet). This high altitude stretch of pavement brings you to some amazing overlooks with some truly impressive peaks. Just keep your eyes on the pavement because in parts there’s only a small rail between you and a gnarly dropoff.

Outside of the car, there is some amazing hiking to be had in Glacier National Park. The park roads bring you to many great spots in the park, but for the very best scenery you need to literally go the extra mile on foot. Walk along lakes formed by glaciers that are colorful shades of aqua and visit stunning waterfalls. Try the park’s most famous hike, Highline Loop, for incredible views and good odds of seeing wildlife.

One of the best places to finish the day is at Two Medicine Lake. The only way to reach the lake is from the park entrance named for the lake in the southeast of the park. The calm waters of the lake make a perfect place to catch a reflection shot as the sun melts into the nearly symmetrical mountains surrounding the lake.
