On average, festival-goers travel 908 miles from home to see their favorite bands. Which is pretty far, considering that three days camped out in the sun requires a lot of stuff, leaving little room for your garms. So why not shop when you get there? We assembled a guide to picking up threads in some of the top festival cities in the U.S.

Las Vegas

Las Vegas doesn’t do small. Or subtle. Nevada festivals tend to revolve around EDM, punk and metal, so the more ostentatious the clothes, the better. Pools are also a way of life here, so it’s no surprise that gigs like the Exodus Festival revolve around swimming pools. Luckily, there’s no shortage of swimwear stores. Shops like Swim and Beach Bash offer every style under the sun and won’t break the bank.

San Francisco

San Francisco is the home of hipsters, hills and Silicone Valley tycoons—meaning there’s no end to the unique stores and finds in this city. For an abundance of the cheap and unusual, consider the Bay Area’s many resale shops. Haight Street in particular is dotted with retro shops, including Wasteland, which specializes in 90’s trends. The fashion-conscious festival-goer is bound to find something gig-worthy here.

Chicago

Like New York, Chicago is a mecca for shoppers. The Fashion Outlets of Chicago are renowned for an impressive amount of designer items at discount prices. Hit up State Street for bargains you’ll want to wear long after the festivals are over. For something a bit different, check out neighborhoods like East Lakeview and Bucktown to find more eclectic, independent fashion stores.

New York

You probably don’t need us to tell you that New York is the fashion capital of America. With a store on nearly every corner, finding new threads to dance in won’t be a hard task. The key to festival fashion is pairing comfort with one-of-a-kind pieces. Buy basics at H&M, Forever 21 or Old Navy—the cheaper the better, as wear and tear is inevitable when you’re dancing your butt off—and invest in some adventurous accessories like bags, jackets, jewelry and boots. Shop downtown in the East Village, where the cool kids hang out, or venture further out into Brooklyn for some unique items.

New Orleans

Unlike a lot of the south, New Orleans fashion is edgier and a bit darker. Channel your dark side and ready yourself for a weekend of high-energy partying at boutiques like Fleurty Girl and Swap. Fleurty Girl is a unique New Orleans staple specializing in handmade T-shirts, and you can find designer duds at Swap for some seriously good prices. This consignment and vintage shop carries the likes of Rebecca Minkoff, Tibi and other designers.
