hotels with dogs

Fido’s part of the family, right? Then there’s no reason he should stay behind while everyone else is off having a grand time on vacation. These pet-friendly, luxury hotels make it easy for pets to join in the fun.

At Colorado’s Ritz-Carlton, Bachelor Gulch near BeaverCreek, rustic-minded pooches get the royal treatment. When you pay $125 for the first three nights, and a fee of $25 per night for each night thereafter, the hotel’s “Pampered Paws for a Cause” program donates $25 to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). But your pooch wins, too: Indulge him in specialty pet treatments in the spa, try out dog-centric fitness services, and indulge him with organic dog food and treats.

Meanwhile, Starwood’s pet-friendly policy is one of the best in the biz. At the W New York – Downtown, for example, dogs and cats receive a toy, treat and hotel tag. All the comforts of home are provided, too, including use of a custom bed, food and water bowls, and turndown service. While you’re off sightseeing, the hotel can handle dog-sitting and walking, and even a provide a birthday cake if it’s your critter’s special day. All this comes for a $100 non-refundable cleaning fee, plus an extra $25 tacked onto the room rate.

Still, if you’re considering a stay at a Kimpton Hotels property such as the Prescott Hotel in San Francisco, know you’ll benefit from a resident Director of Pet Relations, a dog who greets guests, welcomes behind-ear scratches and mingles during cocktail hour. There’s no size, weight or breed restriction, and pets get a loaner bed, food and water bowls, fresh water and treats in the lobby.
