Summer savings: The Marriott CasaMagna Cancun is among the hotels offering special deals.

By Mark Chesnut

The warmer months may be peak season for family travel and summer vacations, but in many parts of the globe, it’s actually an off-peak time –which means you can get especially good deals for both business and leisure travel.

Mexico hotels
South of the border is a great place to take advantage of cheaper-than-usual room rates at a variety of luxurious hotels and resorts that are perfect for business meetings, incentives and group getaways. At the JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa, for example, visitors can indulge in spa treatments, while at the nearby Marriott CasaMagna Resort Cancun, the supervised children’s program can take care of the kids while grown-ups make use of the more than 11,000 square feet of meeting space.

Dominican Republic hotels
The Caribbean is another region where the summer months can mean great deals. At the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic — the first all-inclusive Hard Rock property — there is more than 65,500 square feet of meeting space, as well as restaurants serving up everything from Japanese toItalian cuisine. And long after the sun sets, live DJs and open-air theme parties keep the action going. Also in Punta Cana is the recently renovated Iberostar Punta Cana, which has meeting space as well as a spa. a children’s club and no less than 10 restaurants.

Bahamas hotels
One of the best-known large beach resort hotels, Atlantis, Paradise Island is well versed at blending summertime savings with business and leisure activities. Orbitz offers savings of up to 45 percent on summer travel to this resort, which features 20 swimming areas, multiple restaurants, meeting and event space and 14 exhibit lagoons populated with more than 50,000 sea animals — all right on the property.
