LGBT love: The Orbitz gang at the Atlanta Pride Parade 2010.

By Antoinette Bierman

It’s truly a unique experience to work for a company that champions diversity and equalityto the extent that they are active participants in the communities they support. As a first-time volunteer at the Atlanta Pride Festival –to be held this year from Oct. 8 to 9 — I was excited to see firsthand how one of the largest pride festivals in the country would stack up to other great events I had attended. It definitely exceeded my expectations.

The weekend began with a shift at the Orbitz booth, where we supervised fierce competition in the cash cube and chatted with folks about GayOrbitz.com and Orbitz vacation packages.  After a crazy day at Piedmont Park, we managed to get just enough sleep on Saturday night to get back up Sunday morning and march in the annual Pride Parade.  We somehow managed to navigate the hovercraft through the winding streets of Midtown Atlanta, passing by many of the fantastic Atlanta hotels that we partner with.  There were so many supporters lining the streets that we nearly ran out of the hundreds of leis that we passed out to the crowds.  I can only hope to have just as much fun with the Orbitz team at this year’s Atlanta Pride 2011!
