Super 8 Yellowknife2.0 out of 5.0
Recent guest reviews
1. Location – convenient. Within 10 minute drive from airport. 2 minute walk to Tim Hortons and Mark’s (a good supply of winter gear), 5 minute walk to Walmart (with McDonald’s), 10 minute walk to Independent (supermarket) and McDonald’s. 15 minute drive to Downtown and Old Town. *Roughly $10 taxi fare from one place to another. 2. Room: size is good. Coffee maker, electric kettle and microwave provided. You can prepare your own food. But poor insulation with unruly guests (mostly from tour groups) gives you endless banging of doors, stomping along the hallway, running in the room (heavy snow boots make it worse), ringing of entrance doorbell all through the night until dawn. Cleanliness: job well done. Suggestion to hotel management: Speak to the tour guides and travel agencies. They have their choice of hotel but you have the choice of guests. 3. A small gym with a treadmill and a step machine. 2 vending machines of drinks and snacks. The breakfast room open all day so you can hang around. Tea and coffee are still available. 4. Breakfast – free. Typical American, enough food but no replenishment. Be there early. Lack of space - pack your breakfast with paper cups/plates and have it in your room. Note: breakfast ends at 10:30 am (no leftovers) 5. Staff – many guests described them as rude and unhelpful. Unfortunately, you can't expect hospitality you get from big cities. It might be the adverse psychological effects from cold weather. Conclusion: If you want to have peaceful sleep after a day of activities, Super 8 is not your choice. If you want a place to stay, it is definitely not a bad choice.
I found the front desk staff friendly and efficient. The room was big enough and clean! The location was great for getting last minute items to take north. There is a breakfast provided but I left too early to try it out. I would stay again.
Not enough insolation in the walls and floor, can here the nabours talking in the next room. Can hear the room above walking quietly. Too noisy.
Drunk/partying guests late at night. In the morning there was a drunk, disorderly and extremely aggresive guest causing commotion in the elevator and lobby. I am a big, fit person, but at one point I was afraid for my safety. Strongly suggest better client monitoring.
Very short stay. Had to leave before the breakfast was available but the room was comfortable, clean and quiet
Very friendly and neat and tidy place to stay , quiet nights and free morning meal in the morning which I find pretty nice
Stayed here for a work trip -- spent over $200 on taxi services to/from the airport and into town for meetings. It would be nice to see an airport shuttle or shuttle to town by the hotel. I did not eat the breakfast as it seemed too basic, so ate in town instead.
Not bad but there are better places in yellowknife. Tv issues that I needed to repair myself, only the person who was at the front desk the first night at check in was helpful.
The carpet was wet in the jr suite that we checked into. So we were given a 50 dollar discount. Then we had to move into another room the next day without being told. Then our credit card was pre authorized way too many times. Did not enjoy my experience, the housekeeping did not even clean our new room. The staff at front desk were rude and threatened to boot us out if we couldn’t make another pre auth...I felt like a criminal for the way they treated us.
You have a walmart, groceries, McDonald's , Tim hortons and lots of of restaurants and pleanty of food choices all within a 1 minute walk its perfect. Free breakfast aswell and its a very nice variety off food. Clean rooms / comfortable beds friendly staff its everything you expect very happy with our stay. Be careful with tours (there not affiliated with the hotel at all) but our downside to the trip was bad tours, not getting what the brochures say.
