Super 8 Yellowknife2.0 out of 5.0

Tried booking online but the site said they were full. I called direct and got a room. I stay with the Super8 chain when I travel because they offer hotels in most places and usually provide very good value. The Yellowknife Super8 certainly falls into this category and it's just a $13 cab ride from the airport. My room had two queen beds in it which is more than I needed but you take what is available. I would be hard pressed to find something to complain about because this hotel built in 2000 appears very well maintained and is well above standard for most Super8's. I doubt there is little one would find missing as far as amenities is concerned, right down to the in-room safe for storing valuables. The only thing I missed was an easy chair or sofa, which is usually available in a room with single queen bed. I arrived around 9:00 pm and was hungry. They have vending machines in the hotel and there is a Tim Hortons within a pitching wedge from the front door. The ATM in the lobby was handy too. I have to go back through Yellowknife in a week or so and I will definitely be making a reservation here again. Thanks for a very pleasant stay.
I found the desk people welcoming Lots of restaurants close by Bed was comfortable and the room clean Was thankful for black out curtains
I don't normally stay at Super 8's, and now I know why. Rooms OK, very small breakfast area and not much else around. Toured as a group so didn't get a personal say on Hotel choice. There are surely better options in yellowknife.
Nice hotel with helpful staff. The location provides very easy access to Walmart, Tim Hortons, Groceries, and restaurant options. The rooms are clean and well appointed, excellent value for the money. Definitely worth staying here.
Despite having satelite TV, the hotel has decided to go cheap and there is almost no channels authorized. Very annoying as there is not much else to do. Also breakfast buffet is poor.
This is where I always stay when I go to Yellowknife. The card reader at the front door wasn't working and either was the snack machine. There are too many"undesirables" Hanging around the front of the building at night. Otherwise, for Yellowknife, it's my preferred motel.
Room was 28 degrees my entire stay, outside was no more than 15. No air conditioning, no fans, only option I was given from front desk was to open my window. *Heat stroke from excessive heat in room*
My husband's work brought us up to Yellowknife in the hopes that he would be agreeable to accepting a position here as Manager. They booked us into the Super 8 as it was close to the airport and the new work location. The hotel is close to Tim Hortons (like 30 seconds away close...depending on how fast you walk across the parking lot). The Front desk staff always greeted you with a smile and a hello. The housekeeping Staff were amazing as well. My first morning here while my husband was in meetings I came back to my room from yet another Tim's run and the Housekeeping Staff were just getting toy room so I only asked if I could swap out the garbage and that everything else was good. They asked if I was sure or if there was anything I needed (towels etc) and I said that I was good and thanked them. It's nice to know that they are ensuring guests are comfortable. They were super friendly and did a great job of tidying the room, making the beds and refreshing the towels my second day. Thanks guys! Breakfast was plentiful, varied with an assortment of toast, bagels, boiled eggs, juice, fruit and WAFFLES!!! (PS: if you want bacon/sausage and cheese - go to a restaurant and pay for it. The breakfast is complimentary and just wonderful) Oh and the lovely staff member in the breakfast room was helpful and quite funny! On a side note: my husband has agreed to take the position in Yellowknife so this will be my new home in a few months. In the interim - my husband has decided to make Super 8 his home during the transition period. Thank You Super 8 for a job well done and making us feel Welcomed in our new home.
We stayed here for 3 nights for the Aurora. There are nothing to complain about, however, the hotel still could have done some improvement. The hotel provide almost everything:tv,microwave, fridge, safe, iron, kettle, gym, you name it. The breakfast was included, but very basic, no bacon/sausage or cheese. Location is good, close to airport. It is small town anyway, basically close to everything. The building and decor are old, especially the carpet in our room, demaged. Looks ugly.
Hotel was clean. Carpet was dated and I am not a fan of carpeting in hotels.Front desk was fine and check in was simple and quick, many thanks to Andrea at front desk who always greeted us with a smile and answered all our questions. Great person! This hotel was about $12 from all Old Town activites by taxi. Breakfast is bagels, bread, hard eggs, oatmeal, coffee tea, few fruits and yougerts. Decent to get the day started. Tim's is right next door as well as Walmart and Mark's Work Wearhouse. Walmart prices were comparable to Ontario. McDons inside. Walmart does have food and snacks. We carried a 24 of water bk to the hotel. Not far at all. Under 5 mins. It is no Hilton, but were didn't book a Hilton. Served us well, would return for sure! Thanks Super 8! FYI Dominos Pizza, Subway and BMO right close as well. Grocery store is 1 block away.
