Days Inn & Suites by Wyndham Yellowknife3.0 out of 5.0

Check in is at 4:00 pm and we couldn't get our room when we arrived at 3:30 pm. Then the room wasn't ready until almost 5:30 pm, so it was a long wait in the lobby. Roberta on the front desk made us some tea to sip while we waited. Room was large, clean, and warm for the length of out stay. The restaurant wasn't great, but served the purpose for a couple of breakfasts. Good location and easy walking distance to most things, except when the wind was blowing and the temperature was -20C.
Got into the hotel later in the evening, went right to my room, went to sleep and about 2:30am in the morning all I heard was frantic screaming and a vacuum going on for quite sometime. It seems as if there was a leak in the room across the hall. Not really the most pleasant sleep I was hoping for.
We have been staying in Days Inn for 3 night in March. I got some terrible bed bug bites on my arms and leg and face. It was very itchy and bumpy. I showed my bites to their reception and service manager. But they denied and said that they have checked my suite and nothing found. I went to see 3 doctors when I got home. All of them confirmed that they were bed bug bites. Any people who are going to Yellowknife should be aware of this. Horrible bed bugs in Days Inn.
With the exception of Roberta, most people who works there are like robots... following the black and white and totally missing the human touch. Where's the customer service? You're in the business of hospitality... Hello? Well all this is due to the overbooking at The Explorer. One time deal; won't come back.
I love the fact that the Days Inn is on the edge of downtown and just a short walk from Old Town. I based myself here for three nights so I could easily walk to the Long John Jamboree and Snowking Festival. There is a free airport shuttle that goes to most of the hotels in town, including this one. The rug in the entrance is a little faded/worn, but I had a lovely woman check me in, there are couches/chairs to lounge on in the lobby while you wait to be picked up for tours, and my non-smoking room was very quiet and clean and spacious enough that it could have easily suited my family of four if I wasn't travelling alone for work. The on-site restaurant, the Mantle, is currently owned by a Filipino family and has interesting Filipino dishes on the menu as well as Western dishes. There was a coffeemaker, kettle and mini fridge in my room. The Days Inn isn't fancy but it met all my needs and I would go back.
The suite was nice and large and had everything I needed. Shower was great. Nice hot water temp and bed was comfy. Bathroom a little on the small side. Climate control worked great. Hotel was within walking distance of downtown. Lots of room to move around and elevator was generally very quick and responsive. Rooms are a little dated and expensive for what you get, but being peak aurora season, I realise this is what you get sometimes. No bother. A couple of minor cons: I used the fitness centre every day for the treadmill and it was locked. I had to go down to reception to get it unlocked, which was no problem really. When checking out I asked the receptionist to call me a cab. She rolled her eyes and told me to do it myself. It was beyond rude. I realise she was quite busy, but I would have been prepared to wait even 10 minutes until she was ready. Her attitude was appalling. Would I stay here again? Yes. I can forgive a grumpy receptionist who might be having a bad day, but otherwise the hotel is perfectly fine.
First impressions are deceiving. The lobby looked dreary and grey, but the room was spacious, looks renovated, and clean. There was plenty of space to place large luggages on the floor. Amenities were good, with a large fridge, microwave, coffee/tea-maker, as well as a kettle. The bathroom was well-stocked with lots of towels and had plenty of hot water with good water pressure. This is a great place to call Yellowknife home for a few nights while hunting aurora. All the major tour agencies in town pick up from here, and there is also a free airport shuttle that departs at set times and is shared with the other major hotels in town. The supermarket at YK Centre is only a short 10 minute walk away while the Old Town is 15 minutes in the opposite direction.
We recently stayed for two nights and found this to be a convenient location. The establishment is dated, however the room was clean and tidy. It was about what you expect from a hotel of this ratting. We would stay here again.
Stayed here one night. It was EXTREMELY loud at 3-5 am. Front desk staff basically didn’t care. I asked for a late checkout... she offered me 30 mins and was very rude when I asked for an hour. Many better places to stay in Yellowknife.
It’s not a 5 star hotel and no air conditioner or cool fan for summer, winter is not that cold if the room is nice and warm or too warm. It’s a bit noisy when people walk by the room with loud stamping in the halls but all in all it’s good place to stay when northern lights are out at this time of year.
