Prickly Pear Cottage, Upper Unit - 3 bedroom charmer on south Wrightsville Beach

Discover the beauty of Wrightsville Beach from this welcoming 3-bedroom cottage. Step inside and feel instantly at home in this awesome property. With 2 queen beds and 1 full bed, it's perfect for a superb getaway with friends or family. Located in the sought after south end of Wrightsville Beach, the cottage, built in 1947, is a good representation of old Wrightsville of yesteryear. The house sits amongst beautiful custom homes yet has a very laid back vibe on the south end just across the street from the beach. It is steps away from public beach access ‘41’ and a quick walk to the lazy beaches of Banks Channel. This unit has been completely renovated and is the perfect base camp for a memorable beach vacation.

Welcome to The Prickly Pear Cottage Upper Unit, named after the native cactus that inhabits the beautiful barrier islands of this part of North Carolina and is easily visible at the beaches across the street. It is the upper level unit of a duplex cottage, and it is steps away from public beach access '40' & '41'. In the other direction and easy walk lies the Oceanic Restaurant & Bar, Sundays Cafe/Bakery Shop, and South End Surf Shop. On many mornings and evenings, you can hear the sound of the ocean waves as you enjoy the beach breeze with a cup of coffee or a cocktail on the porch rockers. This unit, with the original yellow pine hardwood floors throughout, has been completely renovated with a brand new kitchen and updated bathroom. The home was carefully restored in a manner to reflect the historic nature of this beach cottage as one of the first of its kind on the south end of Wrightsville Beach Island. After a long day at the beach or on the water, there is an outdoor shower to rinse off, a relaxing porch to have a drink and take in the sea breeze, and a cozy living room area and bedrooms to unwind. Rates are better than most hotels on the island plus you get the luxury of having separate bedrooms and your own spacious, well appointed kitchen, living room, and outdoor wraparound porch! No need to worry about parking as there are your own parking spots in the driveway. Park your car and you may not need to use it again for the rest of your trip.

The lower unit, which has also been listed on VRBO for the 3 previous years, currently hosts two longer term tenants. Reviews for that unit can be found on 'Prickly Pear across street from Beach'
The cottage is air-conditioned and features a kitchen and space to spread out with 3 bedrooms. The cottage also includes a washing machine.

Great vacation spot. The house was clean and spacious. The location is what truly makes this place shine. 4-5 min walk to the beach. Public access is two houses down and across the street. If you want stunning sunsets this place is ideally located along the southern end. This is rhetorical best place for sunsets.

Perfect cottage for family to celebrate Hoggard High School graduation.

We loved the cottage - inviting, comfortable, and spotless!Beds quite comfortable and porch the best! Spent many morning and evening hours there.Everything was wonderful so no complaints at all. A suggestion that it would be nice to have one more bathroom, although the outside shower was helpful. A great stay ad would book again!

The family and I stayed at Wilmington Beach as our daughter was participating in a summer marine program at the nearby UNC Campus in town. The house worked well for the three of us and could comfortably accommodate four people. It’s well situated towards the end of the island, with easy access to the beach. This part of the island was quiet, the tranquility interrupted by the occasional landscaping crew trimming the hedges and whatnot. The water in June was quite nice. The house has an outdoor shower to the side that makes it convenient to wash off the sand. The washer and dryer, which is in the garage, came in handy. The house itself was in good working order and was well provisioned with cookware and the like. The hosts provided plenty of beach towels and chairs, as well. The front porch gets a nice sea breeze during the day. It’s pleasant to sit outside and watch the parade of people walking, talking, biking, and carrying their surf boards to the beach. The back porch is enclosed. It makes for a good, quiet spot if you need to tend to work during your stay. Overall, we can with confidence recommend the house to a beach-loving family of three or four that values easy walking access to the shore and a tranquil stay.
