The Glenview Hotel And Leisure Club4.0 out of 5.0

Stayed here while doing a course. Rate was very reasonable and room was functional but in bad need of an update. Carpet was in a terrible condition and wasnt hoovered when I arrived. Bath is too shallow. Clearly a hotel for the overnight traveller. Arrived for breakfast just after 7 but food wasn't hot. Scrambled eggs looked particularly unappealing and I noticed other guests passing these by too. Staff were unhelpful at breakfast . Reception staff were very pleasant & helpful
After reading recent reviews I was looking forward to our stay at glen view. On entering the grand reception lobby, a framed 4 star trip advisor rating, in a glass cabinet greeted us. Room was nice, if a little let go in places. The bathroom needed work, there was evidence of mould. Lunch in the conservatory was excellent, the chef was very friendly and the chicken pie I can't recommend enough! Unfortunately my 2 star rating for this stay is a result of the breakfast staff. Although arriving at 1020 for breakfast I was greeted by a member of staff who was very unwelcoming and not happy to help. We ordered toast when we arrived, by 1050 I enquiries about the toast, to be told the toaster was turned off and needed 20mins to warm up. Uninterested employee didn't even have the decency to come and tell us. Mean while food is still coming out of the kitchen (with toast). The scrambled eggs were great, maybe an improvement from a previous post, but can't help feel if floor staff are not giving the chef updates on levels...so compliments to the chef who is obviously the only one properly working at breakfast with these minions. In fact that's disrespectful to minions. Over priced. Poor local knowledge. Unfortunately won't be staying again.
Lovely hotel in the beautiful garden of Ireland. I think that this could be regarded as a hidden Gem. The staff were super friendly and we really enjoyed our lovely dinner. This hotel has a big fitness centre, ample parking and while it is very close to Dublin City is situated in the beautiful garden of Wicklow.
I was here for a wedding at the start of the summer. It's a lovely hotel in beautiful surroundings. The wedding ceremony was held outdoors on their grounds in a secluded garden which was tastefully decorated. Wedding food was beautiful too, highly recommend this hotel.
Having stayed at this hotel before we were really looking forward to staying again. Our room was excellent, our dinner in the conservatory was very good and staff very attentive and pleasant. Breakfast was a different story! The floor manager was unhelpful and his attitude appeared grumpy. When asked for a table at window considering there were empty tables (some of which did need cleared) he said "No". Just "no". This was at about 8.15. The scrambled eggs were finished and were not replaced until 25 minutes later. The tea wasn't hot and to finish off a couple were then given a window table set up for 4.
I was treated recently for my birthday to an overnight stay in the Glenview Hotel and dinner in the Woodlands restaurant. The Glenview is a great hotel with amazing views of the glen below. Loved the outdoor hot tub and the little hidden beer garden. The bedrooms were lovely and beds very comfortable. My only gripe was our room was a little dark (at the back of the hotel) but rooms facing the front seemed much brighter. I must say the breakfast was really delicious . I was however totally surprised at the standard of dinner in the Woodlands restaurant. Everything about the restaurant was top notch. Beautiful décor, amazing views of the Glen, the most helpful staff and of course the most delicious food. I had prawns to start, followed by the most delicious lamb and raspberry frangipane tart for dessert. All so tasty and well presented. There was also a great selection of wines on the menu. I would like to thank the lovely restaurant manager who followed us down to the bar to present me with a birthday dessert plate so nice!! Very highly recommended!
Stayed at this hotel recently with my daughter and grandchildren for 4 nights. Disappointed with the service. Bill disputed and not resolved. Arrive anytime after 10am for breakfast and very little left, had to ask on two occasions for sausages and croissants as none left when we arrived at 10.05, breakfast supposed to be served til 10.30am. Kids Club non existant despite the fact we were told it wd be available twice a day. Food was nice but bar service very slow at night (we were there mid week). It was my birthday and cake and candles which had been arranged by my daughter for our last night in the dining room, did not happen. This I think is far from a 4 star hotel. There were a few other things but I'll leave it at that. We spent over €1,500 so I think we deserved some sort of satisfactory response from the hotel, 11 days later we are still waiting. Won't be going back don't think any of my friends will be either.
We stayed in the hotel one night, travelling with friends. We wanted somewhere central in Wicklow, but also somewhere quiet where we could relax after a day on the road. The Glenview is a hotel with a wee bit of history. They very much promote their history in the latter half of the last century and has a impressive list of people, especially from the world of film and cinema, through their doors. It tells you a lot about the hotel, it has a reputation. Sitting off the N11 dual carriageway there is surprisingly little road noise even when outside, and you instantly appreciate you are in a beautiful part of the world. The rooms are well appointed, spacious and comfortable. It is an older hotel, and that does show a little, adding to the hotel's charm. It is clean, it is comfortable and it is quiet. Ok - the hotel decor is getting a little tired and the skirting boards are getting a bit scruffy. but that doesn't detract from the cleanliness and tidiness, and I certainly wouldn't mark the hotel down on that. The hotel staff were lovely, helpful, professional and are a credit tooth business. We were really impressed by the receptionist at check-in who changed our room allocations without being asked to make sure both couples were on the same corridor. You get the impression, nothing is too much trouble. A great place to relax, and if you want somewhere convenient to Wicklow, or even South Dublin, you would be pushed to find a better option. Thanks to all of the staff at Glenview
We spent 4 days at this hotel for my mothers birthday, there was a misunderstanding about the room rate which I queried on our first morning - it was ignored, on leaving, we were made to wait while the duty manager called the other manager I had already spoken to and again, nothing was resolved. After we left, they proceeded to charge us the disputed amount - no email, phone call to explain why and my emails to them since have gone ignored. Added to that, the kids club is an absolute joke, a young girl sitting with a laptop for kids to watch Netflix, that's it! They also forgot my mothers birthday when we had our final meal in the Woodlands Restaurant upstairs. The breakfast each morning had run out of pastries by 10am (despite being breakfast being served until 10.30). I have decided to do the social media shaming as they have continued to ignore us - give this place a wide berth!!
Situated some 5 miles south of Bray, adjacent to the N11 and ideally placed to enjoy County Wicklow and it's beautiful scenery. We stayed for two nights at the end of August. As soon as you enter the hotel the ambience tells you that you have made a good choice. Reception staff were welcoming and efficient and our executive room on the first floor had a spectacular view of the glen to the front of the hotel. The room was bright, spacious and had a balcony and the king sized bed was very comfortable. The adjoining bathroom was perhaps a little dated but any shortcomings were compensated for by the power shower and quality of the towels. Our evening meal was excellent with one of the best lamb kormas I have ever tasted. Breakfast was equally good with a comprehensive range to meet all tastes. Service at all meals was excellent with friendly, attentive staff. Although I did not use the leisure facilities my wife very much enjoyed the swimming pool and she also had an excellent pedicure in the 'Haven' spa. We will certainly return to this hotel.
