I booked this property for a birthday getaway. In decades of travel, I have never experienced anything like this. The house is in serious disrepair — broken and unstable columns, railings not secured to posts, trip hazards, visible mold, a filthy coffee maker, and a moldy shower. This property did not feel safe. We arrived at the agreed check-in time to find the owners still cleaning. They asked us to wait outside for an hour which ended up being 2 hours on a 90+ degree day with no water or restroom . Once inside, the single aging AC unit could not cool the house. It never reached a comfortable temperature. The property is advertised as oceanfront with a private beach. This is misleading. We were told we could not access the adjacent beach and were directed to walk down the road to find a path. The toilet stopped up and overflowed multiple times. We submitted a refund request. The owners rejected it, claiming everything is fine. It is not. We did not complete our stay there, and left after one night. My Sweet Escape is a nightmare.

Pictures were extremely misleading. The area rugs were VERY dirty, the floor was uneven and the grass and weeds were about 8-10 inches high. The view was very nice but NOT worth the money we spent.

Unsafe property in need of renovation

The fact that the cottage has not been modernized was not a concern for us. But there are several areas that are unsafe such as the outdoor portico. The floor is unlevel which is a hazard for individuals with balance deficits. There are too many niknaks for safety with kids. The pictures are not representative of the condition of the property. The air conditioning is inadequate and all of the fan filters need to be cleaned. We were very grateful that we could keep our pets there.
