The rooms are all quite different. When we checked in we were given a small room, with a view of metal roofs. We upgraded to a large room on third floor. Ensure if you are going to stay, request a room with a view of the port. The deck is stunning, with a great view of the water. Lots of places to sit. Staff were very helpful. No elevator here, but staff will help you carry suitcases. This hotel is not for people that can't climb. Valparaiso is such a great city to explore, lots of hills. I would recommend if you have mobility problems to stay lower on the hills. Make sure you take the tours for tips. The hotel staff will tell you about this. If you are a light sleeper take good ear plugs. The dogs bark constantly all night. And an eye mask to block the light. Not sure I would stay here again. Definitely pros and cons.
Very nicely located and amazingly decorated but man this is noisy. It is an old building and not had any isolation when reshaping into a hotel so sounds like your neighbors are in your room talking showering walking and trucks pass through your bed... windows don't keep out the traffic or sounds from the street. Curtains don't block the light so sleep is a luxury. People are very nice and it is such a pretty hotel but since I am a light sleeper would not come again.
The hotel Ultramar are one of the best accommodations possibilieties in Valparaiso! The view on the city (and the sea) is really breathtaking. Hotel is very modern and very confortable. Maybe small minus is the fact, the hotel has not a lift and you must to use the stairs. If you have a chance to book biggest rooms (app. 40 m2). This rooms are top! Very large and very comfortable. Also staff is extremly helpfull. Definitely you must to try Pisco sour from hotel bar. One of the best in the city. And if you drink the Pisco at hotel terasse, this is unforgettable experience. Me and my wife can strongly reccommended hotel Ultramar!
Very nice and clean hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was very good. The dekoration of the hotel is absolutely magnificant. The room was excelent an clean. Nice view over Valparaiso. The staff helped us with our flight reservation.
Ultramar Hotel is nestled in the hills above Valparaiso, and the view is spectacular. I arrived a little frustrated because Google Maps was not very helpful as I climbed the winding streets. The warm staff assuaged all frustration by taking out a map, and drawing routes for me to take as I ventured to La Sebastiana, So easy to follow. They also marked a safe, beautiful walk to the center of town. (Walking, and enjoying all of the street art, and neighborhoods is an integral part of my ventures.) Breakfast was fresh fruit, pastries, coffee tea, They also offered eggs and meat. My only complaint was noisy neighbors, but that had nothing to do with the Hotel itself. I loved it!
Came to Valparaiso for a weekend getaway and was looking into a nice accommodation on al long weekend -tough thing to do- and came across this hotel recommended with good reviews but so far disappointed, we came early 20 min before check in and couldn't get into our rooms and it took reception for ever to find our reservations. Came back a couple of ours later and our rooms were ready but heating not turned on.....it lacks the little details that make your stay a pleasant one. We did get a lovely view
The Ultramar hotel has a beautifull view. It is a nice 15 minutes walk to the touristic area. The people at the reception were very kind. The breakfast was good. The area were the hotel is located feels save.
The bathrooms were terrible as were the beds. A little more amenities in the bathrooms would really be helpful for travelers who chose to travel light. Not all rooms are the same size- so be careful about the room you choose.
We rented a larger room for three persons. The hotel is well kept and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful and the included breakfast was very good. There is a really nice balcony that overlooks the city and the views are stunning. Unfortunately, they were having problems with the Internet during our stay so that was a bit of a drag but the staff worked hard to find a fix. This hotel is a little off the beaten track....fairly high up on the hill so if you stay there, make sure you are prepared for an uphill walk to the hotel. (Taxis are cheap and there are busses that can take you up the hill). On our last day, we had to depart very early and the staff ensured we had coffee and a bite to eat before leaving...very considerate. I would definitely recommend this hotel but make sure the location (up on the hill) works for you.
All 3 nights we stayed at Ultramar. The service was very good. The hotel didn't have laundry service, but they were able to arrange it with a hotel worker who would do our laundry for us for tips. In addition, they serve a breakfast with specialty coffee for an added cost. The hotel itself is based in a 1900 house, that, well, has it's querks, you know, squeaky boards, no A/C, etc. However, we like vintage and we were there during the fall, so it didn't bother us too much. The original room that was given to my wife and I was a bit small, with a smaller bath. We were lucky that we were able to switch into another room that allowed us a grand vista over Valparasio. They also have a lovely patio that allows for another vista over the harbor. I will have to say that Ultramar was the best value hotel we stayed at in Chile on this trip. It was located somewhat high up on the hills of Valparasio, with a 15 minute walk to Cerro Alegre, which is the social/tourist hub of Valparasio. The hotel also has free parking which was important for us since we were on a driving tour of Chile. The hotel staff also made it possible for us to learn quickly how to get around the mazes of streets that make up Valparasio.
