We stayed 1st May for 3 nights. The hotel was in a great location, the views from the terrace were excellent and the breakfasts were amongst the best we’ve had on our tour of South America. All freshly made and wholesome for each guest. The restaurant was so good we ate there 2 of the nights and on the third night we ate in their sister hotel next door! And the raspberry mojitos ..probably the best we’ve ever had !! The staff in the restaurants were excellent and couldn’t do enough to accommodate us! Definitely recommend !!
Loved the hotel staff, they were extremely friendly and provided good service. Did not like the Rainhead shower in the bathroom, also not enough storage space in there. Shower ok for men but not very good for washing women's hair. Not enough water pressure. My room was under the restaurant and you could hear quite a bit of noise coming through as the floors are wooden without noise insulation. Had 2 fabulous massages though by Catarina? All in all a good place to stay.
We took a recent tour with David of Leyenda Tours-it was booked thru Hotel Fauna. We had limited time and David gave a very comprehensive tour in the time we had. He was able to show us all the highlights and explain so much about the city's history and charming aspects. Plus, he took photos of us at all the locations which he forwarded to us after we returned home. Such a nice man in a fabulous city!!
We spent two nights at this hotel and chose to stay in a room with sea view. This did mean that it was rather noisy at night being close to the reception with wooden floors and no rugs. However the view was worth it. One small complaint would be the lack of hanging or storage space and no shelf space in the bathroom but that’s a minor point. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and the hotel was very stylish. In addition the restaurant is fantastic and serves a great breakfast for hotel guests. We also had a wonderful lunch there. All with amazing views. If you have time be sure to book the Tours for Tips with Isaac. He is very friendly and knowledgeable and we spent a very enjoyable four hours with him touring the city. He will adapt the tour to suit your interests and he speaks very good English.
We spent 3 nights at this unique hotel. Upon arrival we were suprised by the nontraditional nature of The Fauna. Thick adobe walls, eclectic light fixtures, a book case as a dresser. In short order we were enamored by the Fauna. The lovely breezes blowing in through the two sets of large windows, the attentive staff, the excellent breakfast served on the top level as well as the fun vibe of the restaurant/bar. This will be our number one choice when we return to Valparaiso!!
Fauna is my favorite type of little hotel -- a historic, character-filled building in which the interior has been updated with cutting-edge style and modern comforts. Here's what's great about it: Restaurant: The rooftop restaurant not only has great food and cocktails but a stunning view of the bay and the hillsides. Yes, anyone can go there for dinner or drinks. But staying at Fauna, you get to have breakfast there every day! We felt sooo fortunate. Rooms: Comfortable beds, good showers, very unique and stylish interior! The rooms are nestled below the main floor, against the hillside, and they are designed so you can view some of the exposed rock, which was interesting. This layout also ensures the rooms are very quiet even though the hotel is on a fairly busy tourist street. Location: This is a great spot if you want to be in the center of the touristic area on Cerro Alegre. It's on a pedestrian-only street with TONS of restaurants, cafes, and shops within a block or two. It's barely 20 yards from one of the fun and historic funiculars to take you down the hill, and only a short walk to the museum. A great location to wander and explore. As I mentioned above, the rooms are quiet so the busy location is not a problem in terms of noise. BUT if you want to stay in a quiet, non-touristic neighborhood, this would not be a good choice for you. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall, I would absolutely stay here again! One of the most memorable hotels we've ever visited.
Good location at the top of the ascensor Reina Victoria. We paid extra for a ‘superior’ room, as it was a special birthday. It wasn't particularly special, which was a disappointment. It was large and comfortable, although quite expensive, but that probably reflects local rates. I've seen reviews that said it was 'boutique' - not a term I'd use. Quirky, interesting, good location yes, but not boutique. There was a lot of noise at night, partly because it is an old building with wooden floors, but also our room being located below the dining room and near reception which didn’t help. We had a lot of disturbed sleep from scraping tables and chairs, entrance buzzer, cleaning in the very early hours (4.30am), in addition to outside noise which can’t be helped. We would recommend asking for a room on a lower floor away from reception and the restaurant. On our last morning, we needed to leave early. No one was around at 6.45am, the door was locked. We could find no way to get out, which was a health and safety concern, had there been an emergency. Eventually found a cleaner in the dining room which is not very accessible, who found someone to let us out. That said, the breakfast were good. A range of things were served to the table, including fresh juice, fruit, granola and yoghurt, cheese and salami, one bread roll and a slice of toast. Tea/coffee.
The hotel staff were fab but a couple of the restaurant staff had a bit too cool for school attitude. Having said that the restaurant and bar is cool! It seems like the place to be for a cocktail before dinner or dinner itself! Actually, it's always busy! Understandable really, awesome location, great views, cool atmostphere, fab drinks & delish food...so yes, it's got it all. Back to the hotel, the room was spacious, very comfortable and the minimalist decor done well. Just 2 minor things: - our room was by the back laneway and we were told not to leave things too close to the window (if open) cos it might disappear. - given how popular the restaurant/bar was, they should tell all guests upon check-in, so they can book earlier rather than later...
We stayed here for 2 nights in December 2017. Room was great and very spacious - also had a great view from the window. The staff were very helpful whenever we had questions and while checking in. Breakfast was amazing! We ate at the rooftop one night also and it was great!
We stayed one night at Hotel Fauna in Valparaiso. We chose the hotel because of it's location and the other reviews of their wonderful roof top bar and restaurant. The rooms were adequate, clean and roomy. Our room had a sitting room with big tall windows that looked out over the city. The view from the restaurant was the best in all of Valparaiso. The food was good and the breakfasts generous. My only comments would be that the hotel is on a pedestrian walkway. To access the hotel, you have to walk about a half a block to the hotel on a cobbled stone street. For some, they might find this a chore especially with a lot of luggage. The hotel is also on several levels without an elevator. For those who are physically challenged with stairs, it might not be the best choice.
