The Hotel really put in a lot of effort to promote Singapore breakfast set. The GM of the Hotel puts in a lot of his personal touch to ensure that the kitchen does all the necessary preparation for the customers
I walked into what seemed like a really old place but within minutes it feels charming and warm. The rooms are basic but a bit more and not fancy at all. Yet, it all seems to work really well with a nice restaurant in the lobby well extending to the poolside bar. The food, like the rooms, are absolute value for money which gets enhanced by a helpful staff who are chatty when needed. The hotel is close to the riverside as well as to a multi-storeyed cool and hip bar-cum-restaurant that boasts of a live band every now and then. About 3kms away is the city centre and the only organised shopping place. Less than a km is the riverside. Key attractions such as temples etc are around 2km and more away. The hotel concierge helps in arranging cabs and guiding you. I would make it back here if given a chance
Well what a huge disappointment. Like many foreigners we were doing a visa run and decide to stay here as around the world Mercure has good reviews. Let start with the room we received an up grade to the business floor which we though was nice however, found out later that there were a couple of conventions happening in the hotel. The beds were discussing covered in stains not what you would expect from the business floor nor from the Mercure. Curtain had huge tears in them and we are still looking for the tab to open them up with. The bath tub had a slip mat in it however, it failed to work as a non slip. The restaurant - the staff were friendly enough however, the food was quite pricey and not that nice. Most things were cold and not very presentable however, I must say the soup was the best I have tasted for some time. Unfortunately we will not be returning to this hotel again. Mercure you need to up date big time.
This could be a solid 4-star place with a few improvements. They have a good location, great pool, friendly staff and nice atmosphere. But, they could use some new carpets and a little more cleaning in the rooms. Left before breakfast so I can’t judge that. Wifi works ok, though you have to keep logging in again and again. Situated on a main avenue, you are just 5 minutes from the river and a nice 15 minute walk from the center and the night market. If you want to be super central then there are more central hotels....though they may be noisier. You are just a five minute taxi trip from the airport and a five minute tuktuk ride from the center. Have fun
I have stayed at the Vientiane Mercure several times. It is an old style hotel, with quite large, clean rooms with pleasant outlooks. I've always had a comfortable bed. A spacious lobby, wood paneling on the walls and sweeping central staircase give it a colonial atmosphere. There are tasteful paintings, drawings and Lao craftwork (musical instruments, etc) around the hotel, not the "dial- an-artwork" common in chain hotels. Staff are polite in the Lao way and are friendly and helpful. It is a short walk to the Mekong and many restaurants, cafes and street food stalls along the river. I had an excellent breakfast every day in the restaurant by the pool. One small problem is that the Internet is slow, a common problem in this part of the world. Overall a very convenient and comfortable place to stay.
we arrived at the hotel and the guy at reception just said passport. there was no instruction as to where our room was, had to follow our bags. no indication of where the restaurant was. no welcome drink which we received at every hotel we had stayed. the room size was ok but the mould in the shower was disgusting. the staff would not even look at us. so different to the wonderful people we had encountered at other places. vientiane itself has nothing to offer, we certainly would not revisit this city.
Lovely to stay here. Everything here is just perfect. Modern and comfortable. Room is spacious and well equipped with modern facilities. Staff is excellent with very good English. They are always welcome, friendly and attentive. Breakfast is good with many options
We, unfortunately, had less than 24h in Vientiane but the hotel was perfectly located to see the main sights, grab some food, see the night market and reach the airport the following morning for our international flight with plenty time. The duty manager on site had also upgraded us to an executive suite. The only downside was the welcome drinks which were too sweet but then again, this is in line with local tastes.
We intended to stay at this hotel 6 nights. The first night, I was unable to have a comfortable hot shower as the hot water turned to cold. My friend had to use the kettle in the room to heat water so I could wash out the shampoo in my hair. I was unable to open the curtains in the room to let in some natural light (it seemed as if they were locked in position from the top). The staff at reception; I called from my room for assistance with the WiFi connection. The staff member hang up on me twice after giving me a username and password (that didnt connect at the time for unknown reasons) without ensuring my query was answered. When asked about what tours/activities we could do during our stay, staff had complete difficulty understanding our queries and said there were no tours. We decided to walk a 2 minutes to the Crowne Plaza hotel to ask if they knew of tours. There we were given lists of things we could do. Mercure upgraded us to an executive room, free of charge for the second night, (to ensure we had hot water). The manager was understanding, and even kindly organised a staff member to drive us to the main area of the city when we left to have dinner. Unfortunatey, we did check out the next day.
Although looking a little tired, accommodation was very clean and comfortable. Staff spoke adequate English and were eager to assist. The restaurant offered both a la carte and buffet meals catering for all tastes and reasonably priced. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit and cereal, eggs, meats, and a selection of pastries catering for both western and Asian tastes.
