Last summer, on our first visit to this truly grand hotel we fell in love with it, so we were eager to return. This July we stayed three nights again in a beautiful, comfortable fifth floor room with a lake view, the same room as last year as it happens! We were delighted to find there is a Krups coffee machine in the room now - last year there was only one in the corridor. Lovely improvement! The shower room is beautiful and spacious too. The varied and tasty breakfast is served in the dining room with a view. We had dinner on the first and last nights of of our stay and they could not have been more different experiences, sadly. On the first night the whole experience was perfect, all the delicious food was served with perfect timings and a good bottle of wine. On the last night of our stay chaos reigned. Most of the diners were unhappy, everyone in our area of the dining room had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to be served. I really was disappointed when our waiter brought our wine into the dining room, opened the bottle on the other side of the room, brought it to the table and then walked off and just left it there! What food we ate was good, but the mood was spoiled by the male waiting staff. Eventually, after waiting 40 minutes for a cheese platter we cancelled the order and went, via reception, to our room. This bad experience in the dining room will not spoil our impression of the hotel, hopefully this was a one-off. We loved the room, and the food, and the peace and quiet so far above the busy city centre of Varese. We didn't use the pool and the seating areas, but we loved to walk through the grounds on our way down to street level. We hope to return as this is a perfect place for my husband to chill out in beautiful surroundings.
We were looking for a last romantic night to celebrate our anniversary in Italy before flying out, we made a very last minute booking and are so very happy with the room, the wonderful front of house and dining staff. We booked a table for dinner and were seated at a beautiful spot with views to the lake. The room was the biggest we have had touring Italy for the past 2 weeks and we had fantastic views from our 5th floor position. Loved the furnishings as they were in tune with the age and impression of the Hotel, the bar and outside deck was a lovely bonus just to share a drink and look at the stars, you won our hearts, thank you!
This hotel feels like a throwback to a bygone era. It's a classic art nouveau hotel with spacious rooms and bathrooms, and well-kept common areas. The restaurant is good with a view of Lake Varese. The service was friendly and efficient. The hotel only has a tiny elevator, so if you're able, I'd suggest taking the stairs. The grounds are nice, if a little faded. I wouldn't stay here for more than a few days, and it's best to stay here if you have a car so you can get around the city and environs.
Spending some time in the Palace Grand Hotel really feels like stepping into a time machine that transports you to the Golden 20s. While many hotels from this era are either closed or have been modernized and lost all of their atmosphere, the Palace still delivers the authentic belleza of this time. The staff is very friendly and the reception us open 24/24. Although the outdoor pool is not the largest, it is quiet and the deck chairs are inviting to spend an afternoon reading under the trees. The rooms are tidy and quiet. We loved our stay!
Hotel is located in the big park on the hill where you will find great views of the city and lake. Itself hotel is dated. Rooms are big, but furniture is old, no real soundproof. Has free wi fi and parking. Service is good. Breakfast was nice. But as many people you can use it for a stopover and nothing else. Surroundings are good, but building needs renovation.
We felt great there, the location on a little hill is perfect for evening running or training at the pool side. All the people are so gentle, helped me perfectly when I was forgetting a nice amount of money in the room. Not to forget Domenico and his colleague from the bar, which created to Aliyah and me a beautiful evening with marvelous drinks. No matter if you look for some time to relax or stop for business. It is good to relax and enjoy Varese, the hills and lakes around or Milan.
We been stayed in this hotel 1 night in July and our memories are great and memorable. We arrived at night and check in was fast and welcome. Our room was on higher floor and view at eraly morning was on Varese lake - absolutely amazing and beautiful. Building of hotel is very old and bring us to old architecture - what been great. room was spacious and with big bathroom. Average breakfast , but waiters been kind and find to us some fish from main kitchen as we don't eat meat. Service been kind and lovely. We walked outside and been inlove with old trees infront of hotel . We felt us great and comfortable with services of hotel. Only small comment about ironing clothes. If hotel don't provide iron to room , person who is coming to take clothes suppose be nice and polite, not to show emotions (HSK).I recommend this hotel . Outside was as well for small kids play area and pool . Thank you for hospitality!
I stayed for one night with a friend in August. We arrived late - at around 2230 - and then reception and bar were still open with lots of staff around. Check in was quick, our room was large and the bed very comfy. The room was slightly dated, but still clean. The bathroom was modern and clean. The breakfast in the morning was great - with fruit, yogurt, meat, cheese, hot food and many, many pastries. The only downer was the coffee was not so great. Overall, the stay was very good.
We spent 4 nights in july in room 414, top floor with super lake view. 2 adults and 2 children in one room but spacious enough! Smallish pool , very friendly staf, nice restaurant although somewhat overpriced. Great outside bar area. Really loved our stay as for 119 per room incl breakfast in july you have a really good idea of old world chic. Varese's ok to spend a day on lago maggiore, lago di como ( although this one is not very far, due to the roads it takes 1.5 hrs one way) and Milan ( tip from the hotel staf: at the end of the a8, there's a huge park and ride at lampugnano. Cheap parking, next to the metro station, and you exit the metro next to the cathedral : -)). We did not visit varese but i was surprised at its size. Would definitely recommend the hotel!
I have just come back from a 3 night stay at the Grand Palace Hotel in Varese in Italy, it was a lovely hotel to stay at with stunning views. We were staying as B&B guests and the breakfast was very good. Drinks in the bar in the evening were served promptly and in a friendly manner This hotel is a good base for seeing the sights that Varese has to offer.
