Hotel Primus Valencia4.0 out of 5.0

We booked this on recommendation and rather wish we hadn’t. Negatives first. The staff greeted us with indifference and that remained the case throughout. To the point where we we felt as if we were tolerated rather than welcomed. There was only one person who was genuinely friendly and she stood out because of that. We were even ignored having checked out this morning. Next, it is a four star hotel, by facilities, but not class. Rooms v basic yet hotel generally soulless due to stark black interior and atmosphere. Positives - room clean and bed comfortable. The location was a way out of old town Valencia, but when we realised that Valencia was more than that the location was actually rather good. Decent bars and restaurants close by and shopping centre over the road. It was also good value for money (for a 3*). I wouldn’t buy B and B either. There were a couple of cafes attached to the hotel which were absolutely fine, authentic and a lot cheaper than the hotel . The pool was tiny and in the garden and not very welcoming either. If I were to go back to V ( which is very nice) I would stay in the old town. If you’re reading this having booked to go don’t worry. Primes is fine and not bad, just not very good either
A four star hotel with great location near the center of science by foot or the marina and the city center by a 10 minute taxy ride. The rooms are clean and confortable and the price is fair. If you come by car it has it's own garage although payed as extra. Overall a good option.
A good quality hotel in a great location. Very central - 20 mins walk to the beach, 30 mins walk to the historic old town. Opposite a lovely, modern shopping mall and large department store. Good size room with large bathroom but all rooms have some noise from the road but this did not seem intrusive. Lovely outdoor pool and eating area but indoor bar and restaurant is a bit lacking in atmosphere. Staff all very helpful and accommodating and prices very reasonable.
Great location: 15 min walk from Marítim - Serrería (very handy as on the same line as airport) and a 5 minute walk to the spectacular architecture of the science, arts centre and aquarium. This is set in a converted river bed in which now lies a grassy park that runs through the centre of Valencia, offering places to walk, cycle and kids to enjoy themselves. Hotel also offers bike hire for 13 euro p/day. We found it a great way to see the city. Has a pool which overs great cover from wind and gets sun most of the day. However, space is at a premium and can end up sitting very close to other groups. THe major down side was the cost of the bar - I understand hotel bars are more expensive - however, 9 euro for Ron Barcelo......I almost collapsed!!!!!! You can get a bottle in Mercadona (across the street in shopping centre) for 13 Euro.
Stayed here for a few nights. Less than 5 minutes walk to the city of science and arts, lots of coffee shops surrounding it as well as a shopping mall and supermarket over the road. Hop on hop off tour bus stop opposite. Couldn’t have asked for a better location to be able to see the sights. Hotel itself is very clean and modern, room was large and spacious, bathroom had a walk in shower, no bath, which was fine for me. Very very clean everywhere. No complimentary refreshments in room- not even the odd bottle of water. Very few items in the mini bar. Breakfast was ok. Nothing special. Cooked food was cold each day. Usual pastries, meats, fruit, yoghurt etc. Visited the Spa once which was lovely- especially the very warm hydrotherapy pool, with lots of water jets and jacuzzi areas. However you have to pay €18 for just 90 mins in there, even as a guest. 90mins isn’t long once you’ve changed and showered etc. Also you have to wear slippers/flip flops AND a swimming cap. If you don’t have your own then you have to buy them. Paid another €2 for a cap. Would have loved to have used the spa again during my visit but far too expensive for just over an hours experience. Overall a very nice hotel in a fab location. I’d happily stay there again.
Hotel room was clean and fresh, nice decor (wooden floors) and staff were very helpful in keeping my bag first day and arranging taxi. Did not try the breakfast or other facilities. Overall would recommend for solo travel and very close to attractions / shopping mall.
The biggest advantage of the hotel is the location next to Museum of Art & Science. Next to it (surcharge) the SPA facility is very pleasant and relaxing. The staff is friendly too and the hotel looks modern. Now let’s talk about the the minuses. The hotel needs major renovation works, you could see the wood damage in several places in the room. Also for the price you pay, things like tissues next to bed or complimentary water should definitely be included. Overall, I think it’s overpriced vs the value you get.
We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights on a business trip then stayed on an additional 2 nights to see the city. What I liked: I liked the location of the hotel, we were able to walk to the beach and we also walked back from the old town too. We rented a bike from the hotel for a day which was lots of fun. The room had marvellous block out blinds. Nice little cafe at the side of the hotel What I didn’t like: No tea and coffee facilities in the room No iron in room We ate the breakfast on 2 of the mornings but thought it was very basic Buffet breakfast
Stayed here for 3 nights just after Christmas for a short break with our 2 children. The hotel is lovely and modern. We had an adjoining room so great space for all of us. They turn the air con off apart from summer months which was infuriating as it was boiling! 73 degrees when we were there and we had to keep the windows open to get some air to sleep but made it noisy. They had an indoor pool which kids couldn’t use and you have to pay extra for which is a rip off. The outdoor pool wasn’t heated and was dirty so couldn’t be used so that was disappointing! Kids weren’t happy. Breakfast was great. Beds spacious but pillows are tiny squares! Only English channels on tv are news(typical of European hotels..more channels for other languages..can’t be that difficult to get some movies on there?! Few minutes walk to science museum and aquarium. Right next door to the main mall Le Corte ingles. Good value for money and would recommend.
The Primus hotel is categorised 4 Star and charged €130 per night. We expected a well run hotel with nice rooms and were shocked when we discovered peeling wallpaper, unkempt skirting boards, pipes that don't work so that the water is not draining off. Even worse, the hotel generally gives the impression of dirtiness. There is dust everywhere, the surfaces have not been cleaned for ages (look at the low lights in the hallways, they are full of dirt), all the glasses (not just a few) at breakfast were unclean, the glasses in out room were not cleaned by room service, there was a hair on my bedside lamp... the list goes on. We were shown three rooms, after we thought # 619 was a bad exception, but# 122 reeked of smoke and we then stayed at #120, accepting our fate. Looking at tripadvisor, these comments do not stand in isolation, but other travellers noticed this too. We decided not to eat in the hotel or use the spa as we could not trust the standard of cleanliness. Prior to Hotel Primus, we stayed at the Balandrat at a similar pricepoint - what a difeerent experience! Staff who actually cared, a lovely room with personal touches adn very clean. What a shame a hotel that is only 10 years old looks that run down. Obviously we will not stay with you again but will also take the opportunity to post an honest review on social media to warn other travellers. One highlight is a receptionist called Rafael, very nice, friendly and competent employee.
