Amazing guesthouse from the 1600s with great antiques, right in the middle of La Medina. The staff is incredibly kind and helpful and went out of their way to help make dinner reservations, show me local lunch places, help me with a cab to the airport, etc.
Very nice hotel nestled in the heart of the a Tunisian neighborhood. This is good if you would like to know about real Tunisian life.
This was a stunningly beautiful Tunisian Villa, authentically restored to its origins as a 17th century merchant's home in the heart of the souk. It was an authentic cultural experience with old world hospitality and modern necessities, free wi-fi and updated western bathroom. I was unfortunately here for only a short business stay, but I would describe the hotel as extraordinarily cozy and romantic. Delicious Tunisian meals were served in the beautiful interior courtyard. Staff were friendly and helpful. Arranging details with Leila the owner by internet was easy. My compliments to the owner and architect who lovingly restored this villa. Job well done. I feel like I need to keep writing and every line would describe the beauty of this place. For travelers who want the predictability of a multinational hotel franchise this is not the place for you. For adventure, romance, authentic culture, beauty, and an extraordinary experience off the beaten path, may you enjoy the Dar Ben Gacem as much or more than I did.
