Ana y Jose Hotel & Spa Tulum4.0 out of 5.0

Most people don’t regard Tulum as very family friendly, but our experience at Ana y Jose made this vacation an absolute dream for the adults and children in our group. First and foremost, the staff (specifically Daniela ❤️ and Paulina❤️ in concierge) began our journey by customizing our hotel experience to ensure our ultimate comfort and enjoyment. They continued to check on us every day and our group (4 adults and 4 small kids) felt totally at ease and catered to in every way. The wait staff (especially Eymard👍🏼, Miguel 👌🏼and Jorge🤘🏼) were beyond accommodating and thoughtful. By the end of the trip, we felt we were leaving our friends and not just staff at a hotel. The rooms were exceptionally well looked after as well. The spa experience was divine. All the adults in our group enjoyed massages and as self-proclaimed spa experts, we can all attest to the skill of the massage therapists there. This was a lovely trip filled with lovely people. We are leaving with heavy hearts but excited that we know we’ll be visiting again in the future.
This is a small hotel with a big heart. Every single person made us feel home and the facilities was just perfect. The room was super spacious for us 3 and we had 2 different pool options. The breakfast is really worthy and super yummy! The sand was perfect to build castles with my son even though we could not use the beach (not a problem of the hotel but the whole riviera maya unfortunately) and despite that, I loved this place. I hope to have a next time!
My friend and I just returned from Tulum for the first time and had the pleasure of staying at the charming Any y Jose hotel. As soon as you walk in you can tell it was a step above the rest of the hotels on the strip. We were always greeted with warm hello's from the staff and always welcomed by each person we were in contact with. We had the ocean front bungalow which was steps away from the crashing waves. The accommodations were always clean and had turn down service every night. We also enjoy the food and drinks at the restaurant on the property several times and they food was amazing! The hotel was centrally located but very quiet and peaceful but at the same time close enough to go out an party if you wanted too. I would definitely stay here again! Can say enough great things about our experience!
After spending 10 days on the road following the Aztec/Mayan trail/climbing ruins/dusty towns etc, it was like walking into paradise into Tulum. We were given a bungalow on the beach with an infinity pool in the rear of our garden with 100m access to a full serviced bar - what more could you ask for!? The only down side was the amount of seaweed that was landing on the beach each day meaning swimming was nearly impossible but the pool was a wonderful Plan B. The only reason the resort is not getting five stars is oddly, there was no door for the bathroom/toilet so no secrets between my partner and I for a few days! Otherwise, fantastic service and the best cerviche this side of the Gulf.
Ana Y Jose was the most expensive resort we have experienced to date, and all things considered, the extra cost is worth the price, it truly is Charming as the resort name states. The beach front room (Encantada, "Feelings" couples only room category closest top floor to the restaurant) was a bit of heaven on earth. Cannot remember ever being so relaxed. The space was designed for utmost air-flow and we never needed to engage the air-conditioner in med-May. We loved the private outdoor bathtub-mini pool on the deck, it was considerably larger and blue, not the shallow, peach tiled images as posted on the website. What a delightful treat, we enjoyed the luxurious large soaking area several times in the evening-so soothing! The hefty price for this room was justified by the extra room amenities. The bathroom was huge, plenty of space for everything. Normally on vacations, I rarely utilize the sitting area;however this one was so comfortable and up-scale that we did relax there frequently. The deck is perfect, tow lounge chairs and a hammock. Most of all, the beautiful bed with cloth canopy, suspended by cables from the ceiling-Nice touch! The hotel reservation department who were so on top of their game in terms of communication, asked if we were celebrating a milestone, which we were, and upon arrival, we were most graciously treated to a generous plate of fresh fruit, chocolate covered strawberries and a chilled bottle of champagne-WOW How impressive! The kind, impeccable service of all the hard working staff here @ Ana Y Jose is second to none. I honestly cannon extend enough gratitude to Daniella & Gerardo, whose extra efforts made our stay here a dream. I sincerely hope that management recognizes these highly professional & motivated individuals as the can-do efficient/service forward staff that makes the resort the successful entity that it is. Thank You Daneilla & Gerardo, may your careers flourish exponentially. Also, thank You to Eymond, our head waiter for daily breakfast. All of the staff was wonderful as well. We tried most of the vast breakfast menu options, and all were impressive. Loved the fresh squeezed juices the most. We only had one dinner on site, the first night on arrival so cannot comment much on the menu other that to rave about the roasted tomato soup with basil & rich gamey goat cheese. Our fav. dinner was @ Ziggy's, nice menu, featuring feet-in-the-sand dining-what Tulum is all about. The rooftop place just a couple door down is nice too, and RosaNegra was interesting-an inspiring menu but way too much on-going waiter hovering. Yes, that is a high-end norm, but seriously when you feel on the spot light during your entire dinner, it's a bit un-nerving. That said, it is definitely worth checking out for the unusual chef creations. One delightful perk of Ana Y Jose is the outdoor shower, near the pool area, nestled in some flora for privacy. It is refreshing and great for cooling off when the ocean is not hospitable..... The only negative, (and of course an environmental issue across the coast) is the massive influx of sargassum in epic proportions, The waves were often amber and one morning the water along part of the shore line looked like black coffee/tea grounds. The insurmountable bounty of the sea weed renders going in the ocean nearly impossible. My chief reason to come to Mexico is to experience the ocean waves and Tulum is our favorite Mecca. Given the onslaught of the ocean epidemic, (said to be caused by man/large corporate entities) we have decided that it is time to explore other coasts that are clear/clean. Also, the erosion is extremely sad, the beach front is being eradicated daily;it is a worrisome issue for the beautiful properties that have put so much into their resorts. We noticed much new construction all around from Cancun to Tulum. One wonders, shouldn't the governments of Mexico & Brazil get together and negotiate a way to eradicate this over-abundance of sargassum as top priority before investing in more commercial enterprise? To conclude, we LOVED everything about Ana Y Jose Charming; it is worth the extra cost for this kind of perfection. Our sincere appreciation to all of the wonderful team, what a well operated resort-KUDOS to all.
Me and my boyfriend stayed at the hotel for a total of 3 nights. first two nights we stayed at suite Arena and then move for the last night to an ocean view room, when i left i resalized i left a brand new bikini at the first suite. I called the concierge and he told me they found it, when i send someone to pick it up they said they didnt have it, that the person that told me they found it lied and suggested cleanning lady stole it... Terrible service for a luxury hotel... super dissapointed of the staff.
We went to Ana Y Jose’s restaurant to have dinner on our last night. The environment is romantic and quiet, which is nice. Their flavors were unique and their way of cooking was too...majority of their food was cooked in a wood over for over 12 hours...that alone, makes it for super flavorful dishes. We had an amouse bouche, grilled shrimp with chilled avocado soup, which was delicious. We also had empanadas and beef ribs, which have been cooked in the wood oven-the ribs were so tender and full of flavor. They brought a dessert tower with dark chocolate and fruit, which was yummy! They also have fresh passion fruit (maracuyá) and watermelon (sandia) juices! Again, a lot of food for two people but you can always take it with you or give it away to someone - in speaking to locals, a lot of the workers will accept it if you offer. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We didn’t stay at the hotel but it looked super cute and cozy and it has a nice pool. We’ll definitely go back.
This hotel was perfect for the quick trip down to Tulum, The staff were wonderful, the hotel cooked the most amazing food and they had all the amenities I was looking for. The Tribal room we rented and it was very spacious.....well done Ana Jose, you are definitely a hotel I will recommend and come back to.
We came here for dinner as a special treat for our friends from Italy. My wife and I had been here 10 years before only for lunch. It was such a special place then, we wanted to see if it still had the magic. 10 years is a long time, but as with fine wine it only gets better. Valets took our car and we went to the dinning area which is open and has sand floors, the whole property is magical. Our first round were margaritas. Now I am a tequila guy and these were the best margaritas I have ever had, no hype, flat out the best. dinner was fresh grilled fish amazing, as was the presentation, the rest of the meal and service.
We stayed here for 5 nights on the recommendation of our travel company to relax after a two week tour across Mexico visiting historic sites. It was also what seemed the right place to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It is in a lovely setting with a beautiful beach, lots of sun loungers and good shade - couldn’t understand how sand would stay cool under a hot sun - no having to run across the beach! We were booked into a garden room but were given one by the main pool, after first night we asked to move to somewhere quieter and darker - there were no shutters/blinds on windows above the bed which let in external path lights and were quickly moved to a very nice garden room. We tried dinner in the restaurant our first night and after two weeks travelling across Mexico trying meals in many restaurants we were very disappointed - our worst meal yet - tasteless guacamole, tacos dripping with fat and rock hard tostados and to us overpriced to boot! The waiter also strongly advised not to add a tip to the bill but to give him cash. Fortunately there are a number of other places to eat along the beach which we frequented, I’d recommend La Estrella for fantastic seafood and good wine more reasonably priced. Also if you want a cocktail and enjoy a stroll along the beach try Dune which has a 2 for 1 happy hour from 4 to 6. Breakfast was a disappointment, it seems the buffet had been changed to a la carte with a large menu the week before which meant slow service even though there were many staff, most days the coffee was luke warm and were only given a small glass of juice - then having to ask for and wait to sign a bill when breakfast was already included. Hotel has a strange practice of requiring a 10,000 peso deposit on checking in and was the only hotel during our lengthy stay in Mexico that had no travel adaptors at reception. We have been lucky enough to have stayed at many beach hotels across the world and unfortunately can’t recommend this area as good value for money. Also unlike other hotels around the world there was no acknowledgement of the birthday!
