We stopped here for one night after a long day of touring and driving. WE really needed a good night's rest - and that was exactly what we got. The facilities overlook a lovely river scene. The desk clerk was friendly and efficient. Our room was dark and quiet. Parking was free and convenient. Just wish we had more time in the area.
Perfect location for trips to Portugal, as well as Southern Galicia, within easy reach and fast routes to Vigo, Portevendra, Santiargo and many more smaller coastal towns and villages. The Town of Tui is also a real find with History in abundance.
We began our Camino Portugues in Tui, Spain. Since we were traveling from California, we stayed at the Parador de Tui for four days to adjust to the time difference. It was a peaceful and quiet experience. It was walking distance from the old town of Tui, Spain, and we could also walk into Valenca, Portugal across the International Bridge. We enjoyed the hot Galician soup served in the restaurant. Whenever we travel abroad, we try to learn the native language which was helpful in communicating with the staff, people in the villages and other pilgrims on the Camino.
Among all the paradors we stayed in during our camino Portugues, this was the least memorable. Although it has a very impressive exterior and the rooms are large, it was quite average. The staff in the dining area were hardworking though even if they didn't quite get the orders perfectly.
We travelled with a group of friends expecting the parador to set high standards of comfort and service. The rooms were clean and well presented, the food in the restaurant was good. The restaurant staff were friendly and helpful with the language barrier However, the rooms were extremely hot and uncomfortable on a 30 d day in May.The air conditioning was poor! And the reception staff were cold and unwelcoming, showing total indifference when we were leaving. Don't bother booking here, there are lots of great looking apartments in the old town with more friendly staff
We stayed here on our Camino Portuguese are walking from Lisbon, and started our Spanish section. This hotel is located on the Camino just before the old town of Tui. Great views over the river towards Valenca. The breakfast however was a disappointment, not as good as we would normally get at a Parador. Our room was nice, with views across the river. If a little small. As were the beds. The free wifi is not very strong, and it was better down stairs. We didn't have the opportunity to eat dinner here as we were out in the old town and when we got back the restaurant was closed.
We traveled by train from Lisbon to Valenca, Portugal. From the Valenca train station we obtained a pilgrim stamp and started our Camino de Santiago. This was nice as we were able to visit the walls of the old fortress and cross the international bridge crossing the Minho River to Tui, Spain. From there it is a short walk to the Parador. The Parador is a beautiful place with gorgeous grounds and views of the river, the Portuguese fortress and the Spanish fortress. The guest rooms were small and the air conditioning was borderline. There is a nice pool which we did not use. We decided to have dinner in town which was wonderful and another story. Buffett breakfast outstanding. Overall a very nice start to our Camino.
Loved, loved this hotel, would loved to have spent more nights here, but we were walking the camino and were only in town for 1 night. The bathroom was large and lovely, the views to the river were stunning.
Restaurant quality in terms of service and goods is poor, less than expected; Comfort at the rooms is very deficient due to climatization. Heather cannot be swiched on/off and air condition didn't work according to guests needs too.
Quieter Floors would be nice - Our Room had (locked) door that connected to adjoining room - The noise from our fellow guests in that room was probably the most memorable memory of our stay - breakfast was good & Staff very friendly. The hotel is very well located for exploring the locality, Tui is a nice small town with nice bars & Restaurants - The beautiful old town of Valença in Portigal is well worth a visit and is only a short walk from the hotel
