We stayed 9 nights in July at this hotel. The setting and location were fabulous but everything needs to be updated or fixed at the hotel. In our room the coffee maker and the mini fridge never worked. We complained 3 times but gave up. While the infinity pool was spectacular 20 years ago it is now crumbling. The front security gate worked sporadically making it hard to get in or out. I will say that the room was always cleaned well. The shower was impossible to keep water from dripping on the floor. We could easily put up with these issues but the worst was the band that played every Thursday until 2:00 am. The music sounded as if it was playing in our room. Impossible to sleep. I find it hard to believe that we were the only ones to complain. The hotel had such potential but needs LOTS OF WORK.
We arrived from a cruise ship just before 10.00 in the morning. The one receptionist on duty was frazzled and was trying to deal with four check-ins at the same time and had a brusque manner. Two days later, when we were waiting for our taxi to the airport, another receptionist effectively called us liars when we said a taxi had been booked, where was it? It appeared 15 minutes late 'because of the traffic', with son and grandad out for a ride taking up the best seats in the van. Between those times, we concluded that the place could offer so much but needed a total refurb and plenty of staff training. When we eventually got into our room, we were well pleased with its location - 2 metres from the beautiful sandy beach, with sun beds, towels and palapas. The room had an verandah with shades from which we sat and watched the sun setting and the boats coming and going. But the sleeping area was cramped, once the king size bed was taken into account, with limited hanging space, and a bathroom that could ideally have been ripped out and new sanitary fittings installed. Breakfast in the main dining room was fine - a good selection of hot and cold food and an egg station. The dinner we had there was very good, once we got the table we thought we had booked earlier in the day - a reservation the Md' argued had nevere been made until I threatened to go to reception, to get the day book to show him that it had been. Who needs a scene to get dinner - and another occasion when I was called a liar by hotel staff. All in all a disappointment, apart from the beach, the warm sea and the swimming, and they are all courtesy of a higher power.
This is probably the nicest hotel on the beach on the island. Food exceeded my expectations. Their associates Christine and Jean-Michel are terrific. Terrific!! Toiletries are delightful. Grounds are very clean. Easy walk to many restaurants. Close to ferry to Fort De France. Walking distance to car rental. The air conditioning and WiFi need help. No ventilation in the bathroom. The property is in need of capital improvements.
We stayed at this hotel in Martinique with 5 couples as part of a tour around some of the Caribbean islands. On arrival we were greeted by a couple of bored and sad faces at the front desk. This was around 9.30 - 10 in the evening and we enquired about somewhere to eat. With a shrug the front desk man said you might find something down the road. He was not remotely interested. Our rooms were along the beachfront. Small and unattractive with a window that was sealed up. Our bath had two large cockroaches running around and more by morning. When I requested a room change the next day and explained why, the front desk man laughed and with attitude, as he had a couple of mates there he was entertaining. We later made enquires about organising a day tour around the island and again they were uninterested and just said no they couldn’t help us. Generally they were rude and no one seemed to be in charge. Other than some of the ladies who worked in the restaurant and a couple of men who helped with our bags, the front desk staff was completely unprofessional, ignorant and lazy in every way. Trying to get a towel for the beach was a challenge and what looked to be a nice over water sunset bar closed at 5pm! All rooms needed a good overhaul. The beds were great. The towels old and grey. I cannot possibly understand how this hotel manages a 4 star rating. If I was the owner I be taking a real good look at how the hotel is being run from the top down. We all travel extensively and have stayed in poorer parts of the world and do not have unreasonable expectations. We are now on another French island not far away and staying is a 4 star hotel similarly on a beach and there is no comparison. If management manages to read this review they really need to do something before the place falls apart or at least into further disrepair. The front desk people are the face of a hotel and where initial impressions are made . Not one of us could honestly recommend this hotel in Martinique as an option even to an enemy.
We spent a week at Bakoua in a king size room overlooking the sea, and while the room was a little old fashioned compared to European 4 star hotels there was really nothing to complain about - the price and standard are typical Caribbean. Beachfront rooms are the best though The hotel has a little beach in its own inlet and while this is not 100% private it was never really a problem and easy to find sunchairs. In terms of location - very good. You are across the bay from Fort de France and frankly this are is much, much nicer. There are a number of good restaurants closeby outside the hotel (eg Cafe de Paris) so you don't have to eat at the Hotel, which is good because the hotel restaurants are ridiculously expensive for what they are - which is the only real negative about the Hotel. We would go back here.
I have posted numerous reviews on Trip Advisor and have never posted a scathing review. By American Standards, the rooms in this hotel are subpar. They are dirty, old, and definitely not worth the $200 per night we paid. Save your money! The service by the front desk staff is terrible. Slow service and no desire to please or help their guests. When we requested a newer room, we were met with stares, sneers, and utter disregard. The front desk staff made no attempts to change our room. We even offered to pay for a better room and they ignored us. Save your money. The pictures on this website do not adequately reflect the rooms. This was a $60 per night room at best. Buyer beware!!! Stay somewhere else. Our bed had hair from the previous guest in it and safe didn’t work. If you’re going for a romantic weekend, he prepared for an ugly, dank, dirty unsatisfying experience. I am currently at the hotel. Pictures forthcoming. Book somewhere else!
This was our second visit in 2 yrs here. The location is just perfect. Just up the road from the Creole Village and Marina with lots of restaurants and shops plus a pharmacy. Pros - Our deluxe room faced the ocean, the view was beautiful and we could eat meals on our small deck. The cleaning staff were very nice, friendly and did a great job. The staff did a great job cleaning the beach area every morning. The water at the beach is filled with fish (mostly tiny). They don’t tell you about that so make sure you get snokel gear and check them out. Beautiful yellow and multi colored fish. You don’t need to go outside of the resort to snorkel! The private beach is just lovely. The shining gem of the hotel. The Cocobar on the water is great with nice staff. A huge plus to the hotel. They have an infinity pool that overlooks the city and it’s beautiful and clean. Drinks at the bar area overlooking the bay day and night is amazing and they are tasty. Cons- the room had tile missing or damaged in the bathroom, the bed and pillows were so soft that it was very uncomfortable. The main restaurant one night had a private event with a loud band and dancing till 2am. Even with the ac on you could hear it in the room as their are no walls in that area. The staff at the lunch restaurant were rude especially the women. I asked for a bottle opener after being directed to them from the front desk and the woman was very unpleasant. A guy came over to help me and he was very nice and even smiled. We had eaten there the other day and waited an hour for our food. They said the kitchen was very busy but it was open to view and the place was half full. They took the price of our appetizers off the bill as they knew they had forgotten them but we didn’t go there again. It’s a shame as the view is amazing and the food is good. Staff needs to be more attentive and pleasent. The infinity pool though clean need repair. In the 2 yrs since our last visit numerous glass panels are cracked. Tile floor is cracked and loose especially near steps outside of the enclosed pool area and is dangerous. Overall a great place - We still loved our stay there and recommend it. But the last 2 yrs has really shown that the owners are not keeping up with the wear and tear. Instruct the lunch restaurant staff to be better at customer service.
WE had a room facing the bay. Great view. The hotel was clean and the staff friendly. The beach and pools were both nice to hand around. The local village of Creole had a variety of restaurants, a convenience store, pharmacy and, best of all, a place to get your laundry done. WE stayed here for 2 weeks and will stay again if we return to Martinique.
Location: west side of Pointe du Bout; very good location for sunset and private beach; many restaurants in the village nearby (walk-in distance); very close to a local ferry station (walking 2-3 min from side door) to cross the bay. Room: quite outdated and renovation needed (we stayed at Beach front building, 2nd floor). The bed is terrible, a king-size mattress on top of a queen-size boxspring; if you sit on the side of bed, you may fall (not safe for young children or elders). Service: reasonable but slow (island time -;)) Parking: free of charge (rental car companies nearby) Beach bar: with beautiful bayview but limited service hours.
We went to Martinique for a friend's bday, stayed at the hotel for 3 days. It was fabulous because of the location. It's close to everything, the ferry, the marina. The pool and beach was amazing and we spend a lot of time in it. The service is a little slow, there's always just 1 or 2 people working, but you're on island time, so it's expected. Breakfast was decent, fresh egg/crepe/omelette station with lots of fresh fruit and pastries. The hotel rooms were basic but clean. We got upgraded to beach side. Being right on the beach and waking up to the view of the ocean is amazing, so I would highly recommend that. I would stay at the hotel again.
