We were to stay in a pretty room with a bathroom. The room on the first floor had a bathroom, but the bathroom was in the front hall where people could be walking in and out of the front door or through to the kitchen. We couldn’t stay in the room on the second floor because the shower had been pulled out of the wall. So we ended up in the ugly room on the third floor, which was obviously the helps quarters back in the day. After not enjoying a horrible dinner in town, we came back to a very cold room. The radiator was absolutely cold. This could not be remedied. We were given to plug-in space heaters to heat the room. Let’s talk about the breakfast. There were little fruit cups in the refrigerator. There was stale granola. There were little bags of Cheerios and oatmeal however, there was no milk. That was the bed and breakfast. Stay away from this bed and breakfast.

We only stayed one night but enjoyed our stay. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot. The room was clean and spacious. It snowed and we had a beautiful view outside our window. It’s a lovely place to stay in Trinidad.

Our stay was wonderful! The architecture of the mansion was beautiful. It was very quiet and peaceful and Main St. was within walking distance. The beds were very comfortable and rooms were spacious. Breakfast was more of a grab and go, which was ok. Joy was a great hostess and made us homemade cookies during our stay!

We phoned the Tarabino inn, well in advance of our stay, left a message, and only received a return phone call very shortly, before a decision needed to be made on booking and our stay. In fact, we received that return call not from the owner but from the Inthens caretaker perhaps the day or so before we were coming. She could not have been nicer and as helpful as possible. Unfortunately, the questions that we originally had were not answered, and we were already committed. In fact, the place is for sale and our experience reflected this. The bones of the inn are fantastic, a lovely Victorian on the surface, well maintained. At its most basic, and part of what we were trying to find out before committing to the booking, was privacy. For example, it is noted that in one of the rooms there is a private hallway to the bathroom. To be clear, the ‘private hallway’ is a curtain where right outside, people can and were present. The bathroom features an old clawfoot that is functional but dangerous, no tracking on the basin. Starting with the bathroom, it is at that point that it becomes clear that every corner possible is being cut. The shower head is so low flow that it is challenging to have anything resembling a decent experience. Further, even given the warmth of the caretaker, the room was profusely dusty under the bed, and bugs were found crawling into our luggage. Most important corner cutting was the bed; Queen size with my partner over 6 feet tall, it bounced like a rubber

We like having the opportunity to stay in quaint old places and this one did not disappoint. Loved the historical qualities of the manor. We had a suite on the second floor that was nicely appointed with vintage furnishings. The wood working throughout was amazing. There was only one other guest staying the night we were there so it was very quiet. I think we are going to have to make up an excuse to come back through Trinidad and stay more than one night here!

The Tarabino is a grand old Victorian and the Garden Suite was on the first floor with a very pleasant sun patio with access to the back gardens. The large, well appointed bathroom with a claw footed tub is down a short hallway and is for exclusive use by our suite. We also ventured upstairs to take in the lovely view from the balcony. Everything was very clean. The one unavoidable problem we encountered is that there are a LOT of steps up from the street parking to the front door. Unfortunately, our hostess had a family emergency prior to our arrival so we never actually met anyone. We had a number we could call for emergencies and were offered access to the kitchen so we could make ourselves breakfast. This was clearly an unavoidable situation which was handled with grace. The Tarabino Inn is a great place to stay for a glimpse into the past.
