I organised an afternoon tea for a group of people early in June. Julie was really helpful in getting it organised and accommodating our needs. Food was lovely, the home made cakes went down especially well. We had sole use of the Pickwick Room which the hotel did some decorating of for us. Overall a lovely afternoon.
Ok so we have had some good and some avaergae experiences here. Tonight was awful. Decided to take the family here for a quick pub type meal Arrived and ordered food with a round of drinks. 2 rounds later no food Food arrives after an hour Mine is cold Sent back 15 mins later no food. Will arrive in 5 mins say the staff 10 mins later I pay to be told it would have arrived but staff busy with an engineer Refused to pay for food due to ruined experience Manager agrees We leave me not having eaten At the end of the day they were not busy at all, which only means that the staff are rubbish OR they are under staffed. I vote for the later as the guys are really good. Such a shame.
Fantastic, very hardworking staff. Food is average pub food. Hotel could do with a facelift, bathrooms look a little tired. All very clean though. Get the decorating sorted out and the food and it would be worth 5 stars.
We had a standard package deal for 50 guests ... Julie the events manager was very helpful even when I started changing numbers and meals the morning of the wedding ..all went smoothly staff lovely and we partied til late Room clean smart and romantic. . Thank you lovely hotel x
We came here (6 of us) for a birthday lunch and it was lovely. Great choices on the menu. We had 3 courses and it was reasonably priced. The Eton mess sundae was especially lovely. Good wine selection and also very good service. Will defiantly return.
Lovely 400 year old hotel, still full of character with modern facilities, very comfortable rooms and beds and super breakfast cooked to order included in the price. Towcester is pretty town with some nice pubs and restaurants, one which has its own brewery.
We had to wait for someone to attend the desk to then be told our room had not been cleaned and that that clean had not even started. We came back later for dinner, which was OK for pub grub. The bed was 2 single mattresses on a double frame. It was hard and springs could be felt. Heating was on and it was hard to sleep with windows open due to the noise from the car park seating area My back hurt and I was tired at the end of the night Breakfast was dreadful. Orders were wrong and when I asked for an apple, as per the menus I was informed they did not have any Also the floor was being mopped when breakfast was open with no wet floor signs causing potential H&S issues The serving staff on the Sat night were great- they worked really hard and were friendly polite and a credit to the hotel Overall, it was dissapointing
We were invited to this place for a christening reception, but due to a large amount of family relations catching up to do we decided to stay into the evening. This place isn't really particularly good if you have children between the ages of 1-12 as there is no garden or age related activities to occupy them. The place is nicely set out inside & very clean.Food & drink are quite good value for money, however it did take a while for our food to arrive (about 25-30 minutes). Staff are very friendly & helpful. There is a car park to the rear, however space is limited though but there is some street parking nearby. If we were in the area again (and without the children) we would go again.
Went last night with 7 friends for a birthday meal. On entering we realised there was two other large events in the building. Two large birthday parties. We found our own reserved table as no one greeted us. Went and got some drinks and then went to order food. Still no one came to our table. Food order taken, one thing unavailable. Arrived 7.30 food at table 9pm!! Food was terrible. They missed one of our meals from our order, this was brought out 10 mins later. My onion bhajis were cremated. Potatoes rock solid and watery. Pasta dishes looked unappetising and again very watery. Burger good. Salmon under portioned. Finished our meals and again no waitress. Sat there. No drinks offered no pudding. Got to 10pm and gave up! Felt I had to complain and give them feedback, we did receive a discount for our meal. Gentleman in front of me also complaining. Total lack of service and poor food.
Getting served took some time. People pushing in. Staff had no idea who was next. The amount of people waiting to complain about food. And the drinks were over priced. £1.70 for a glass of lime and soda. Not a good experience.
