The carpets dirty ..... Curtains off the runners unable to draw properly. The water in the bathroom was scorching hot unable to adjust temperature. A strange odour throughout the Hotel. The staff were friendly and the breakfast very nice but the rest of the hotel certainly needs attention. The chairs in the lounges were horrendous !
We have travelled from the North and decided come here as on the online menu there was quite alot of veggie options. However when was order 2 of the things were unavailable. Certain parts looked grubby peeling wall paper and dust in all the light fittings. Food was boggo standard staff where friendly though.
We managed to get a space in the small car park which is free to residents which was a good start. The cheerful receptionist gave us room key with 2 room numbers on it and informed us which was our actual room number ... the place is apparently due a refurb and no new key gobs are being provided. I have issues with this ... why not just put a sticker on the fob with the one correct number ??? So up the rickety narrow stairs we went creaking on every step. It’s an old building so that didn’t bother me. What did was the fact that the doors creaked alarmingly reminding me of an old horror movie ... get some oil on those hinges !!!! The room was ok not much of a view but the windows were so small and grubby we wouldn’t have seen it anyway. The carpet looked clean, albeit a little stained and worn in places. The bed also was clean although we did decide not to inspect too closely. The whole room had a lack of attention to detail .... screw holes in the walls, a dusty shelf in the cupboard, cobwebs on the wall lamps which had mismatched bulbs and a rusty shower rail with a shower curtain that had seen better days. The hot tap in the sink wouldn’t turn off properly which we were worried would keep us awake.... it turns out the air conditioning unit near our room was what we should have been concerned about. In the morning we negotiated the creaky doors and stairs again. Breakfast was ok but could have been better. The continental buffet looked like it had been set out the night before and the bread tasted dry and stale. The cooked breakfast was adequate, no complaints but nothing to rave about. The young lady who brought our food and checked us out was very pleasant. On the whole the stay was underwhelming but as a reasonably priced hotel it was adequate.
This hotel could really do with a complete overhaul. The building is quite old and that in itself has a certain charm however it is also quite rundown which doesn't. Our room was on the second floor and although OK for one night i wouldn't have wanted to stay much longer. There is dust everywhere, the tap to the wash basin wouldn't fully turn off so water continually dripped into the basin. This is an entertainment venue so has a disco on Saturday nights which too be honest wasn't too bad where we were. You could hear some thumping until 1 am which was a little inconvenient but the worse thing was the Air conditioning units outside our bedroom window which hummed all night. The breakfast is OK but nothing great. But then again it is only £8 so is good value. I think if we were going to stay in Buckingham again I would find somewhere else.
After reading some of the reviews on Tripadvisor I was slightly hesitant about my stay. I was pleasantly surprised, my room was immaculate (tired but hey it's a listed building) Staff extremely helpful and polite. Breakfast made to order and extremely tasty. I would definitely stay again. Thank you
Popped in for some pub grub on the bank holiday weekend. I have been going to this pub on and off for over 20 years and can honestly say it is now disgusting. Arrival at the front door and when I've stepped over the broken glass and dog ends I make my way to a table. After deciding what food and drink we want I go to the bar where 4 children in there pj's are stood. They are the staff or Managers kids. Time for a visit to the gents and I'm sure Biffa has cleaner bins then these facilities. Taps broken, panels missing from the walls exposing pipework, poo on the walls, toilet paper on the floor and most of this looks like it has been like this for a while. Exiting the toilets I can't help noticing the sign asking for a £10 deposit for a pool cue. The food arrives and it is OK. Basic pub grub and tastes ok. Dirt and grim is all over the walls and ledges and the place smells. It is supposed to be a Greene King pub and the MD lives in the area. Best thing to do is close it and convert the place into apartments. Only enter if you have chemical warfare training.
We stayed in this hotel for two nights, it was in a great location for the MotoGP which we was attending. The hotel itself is very run down and needs a lot of maintenance and a good clean. The room was standard but we didn’t mind as we weren’t there a lot. The air conditioning worked which was a bonus as it was a very hot weekend. Unfortunately the curtains were ripped and didn’t close properly, the lights and headboard were covered in dust and the bathroom needed a deep clean. The hallways needed a lot of attention as there were wallpaper missing and cracks in the wall. For the price we paid I would have expected something better. The window downstairs was cracked. We returned to the hotel holding a bottle of water, there was a bouncer on the door who watched us walk in and then shouted ‘oi’ to us saying we couldn’t take it in we explained we were in the hotel and he just turned and walked away. There wasn’t much hotel parking it has a very small car park which is also used for the pub as well as the hotel. The pub had a good selection of drinks available.
We had a 2 night break at this hotel. The food was very good and the staff were very polite and helpful. The location was ideal to attack all the lovely walks which highlighted this town. There was also the walk up to The Wheatsheaf Pub in Maids Morton, Buckingham. Again the food was very good and the staff were very polite and helpful.
Curtains were hanging off, tap was dropping, sheets were dirty. Poor place, although relatively cheap. Pub downstairs was OK with good sport on TV. Shame about the terribly run down hotel. Most things needed improving. Understanding staff though.
We got a cheap room as part of a Greene King deal and stayed here for one night. What a hole!!! Our bathroom stank of wee and poo throughout, obviously a problem with the drain. Terrible decor and tiny bed. What looked like an old promotional banner strewn over our window sill to rot. Whole place absolutely stank of damp/beer. Had no idea there were places as bad as this around! Needs a health and safety visit ASAP.
