Beautiful location, quiet place, nice panorama, vast and well equipped house, very kind and efficient housekeeper. Of course, it is not the Caribbean type house one could dream about, but much more a classical East Coast american house. No vis-a-vis, clean private swimming pool. However, it remains very expensive, taking into account the local cost of life. One very negative point: when you pay that much to rent a place for a week, is it reasonable to charge you an additional 56$ because you check-in at 11:00AM instead of 2:00PM, while your house was free and ready? Is it reasonable not to give guest a second key?
Without a doubt Stonehaven Villas is the best property in Tobago. We have been to the Island many times and always stay here. Staff are accommodating, your villa is a 3 bedroom self contained home with private infinity pool and large sun deck which adjoins a 14 x 50 foot covered veranda. You need a car to enjoy island sight seeing and attending to grocery shopping. We will be back again.
our Tips for Writing Helpful Reviews. The Villas at Stonehaven Black Rock Just us plus 1 524419848 After a few years absence we made our way back to Stonehaven, this time bringing our 12 year old grandson with us. To our great relief there have been no changes since our last visit, the views were as stupendous as ever, the villa just as comfortable and welcoming, the infinity pool as wonderful with magnificent views. The welcome from all members of staff exactly as remembered, however they had sad news for us about Marcel and Lystra , who had both sadly passed away.. Merle greeted us with a big hug and was extremely helpful as ever with advice as to where to take Daniel that we might not have gone to when it was "just us" This time we got to meet Franklyn, the General Manager, in person instead of by email It was great to meet up with him Car hire was arranged for us with no fuss, the car being brought to the villa for us and we returned it at the airport on our departure. Quite amused to find that the daughter used to live in Witney, just 20 miles up the road from us at home, she had been staying for the summer with her boys and was just heading back to England when we arrived. My favourite cocktail, the mudslide, was enjoyed several times over our stay, Daniel of course had orange juice. We only had a week this time so took it in turns to stay at the villa and do a little sightseeing, bearing in mind that although places don't look far on the map it takes quite a lot of time to get there as most of the roads are quite twisty. On our previous stay we had spent a week at the Magdelena, before spending our second week at Stonehaven, and thought we would pop in and see if there had been any changes there, Luckily for us we picked the one day with really heavy rain and thunder to do this, so we settled in for the buffet lunch and waited for the weather to clear. Our friend John Murphy was not there, but if he is reading this all I have to say is "lamp post" and "infinity pool" Several of the staff we met remembered us from our stay, and that is one of the great things about Tobago, they do remember you. You Know that we have always recommended the Villas but what was Daniels take on staying here? When can we come back ? What more can I say
This is what I call a vacation property - better than my own home! I love, love, love the private infinity pool and if you really want to indulge you can have a chef cook for you. The beds are comfy and the bathrooms plentiful. The location is great for people who want some peace and quiet yet just a short drive away is the strip at Crown Point if that's your thing. Same for Pigeon Point. It's a lot nicer than hotels in the Crown Point region and the price does reflect that, but you do feel like you're getting a slice of luxury. The food is good as is the service!
The Villa...9/10 Villas are spacious & comfortable with your own kitchen, private pool + patio deck (BBQ, deck chairs, dining table/chairs inclusive). Air conditioning in bedroom only, ceiling fans in other rooms. A maid comes daily between 10am - 2pm to clean the villa for you which is very handy. The views from the villas are stunning - overlooking the sea with coconut/mango trees surrounding you. You can easily spend half a day in your own pool embracing nature with drink in hand! The Location...7/10 - The villa's are on a steep hill, so if you're walking around as opposed to getting taxi's, be prepared for a workout...made more difficult by the intense heat :-). If you're looking for a quiet time, the resort is in a good location as it's about 15-20mins from the busier/more lively parts of the island. There is a supermarket called Penny savers 10mins drive from the villa for groceries Food...6/10 - The food at the restaurant I would class as average - not bad by any means but nothing special. Restaurant recommendations are: Fish Pot (5mins walk from the resort) Seahorse Inn (10mins walk from the resort) Castara Resort (around 45mins drive but the BEST meal we had in Tobago) Staff...8/10 Lorraine, one of the managers of the resort was absolutely amazing - extremely friendly, always willing to to provide advice, and went out of her way to help us whenever asked. All of the maids that come to clean the villa are pleasant and friendly General Points... You feel very safe at the resort - there is security at the gate, and people are friendly and willing to help. The hotel will organize taxi's for you - it's about 80 TTD for a return trip to Pigeon Point. We found the street feed at Pigeon Point Store Bay to be HORRENDOUS; please avoid if you are a foodie like us. Ask reception for mosquito repellent if you need it. You can get a private massage in your villa with the sounds of the sea in the background - not cheap but recommended! Overall...8/10 We had a great week staying at Stonehaven - we miss the views and pool area most. The food is the only thing that didn't live up to the rest of the resort, but still a solid
Went to Stonehaven villas for a wedding. Our first time in Tobago so wasn't sure what to expect. The place is relatively close to the airport about 15-20 minute drive. The villas are on a fairly steep hill which provides a spectacular view of the water. This also lends to a nice breeze so that it's not too hot. We stayed in Villa 5. Franklin, the manager, helped us get situated with the villa. I was so impressed when I walked in. The photos I have here don't do it justice. It truly has a wow factor in real life. The villa has, I believe, 3 or 4 bedrooms each with its own ensuite. Since we only needed 1, the other doors were locked so we couldn't use them. The bedroom was very spacious with a four-poster king bed. I echo another reviewer's comment that the bed is hard which I'm not accustomed to. However, I slept like a baby on that bed. I can't live without air conditioner. The bedroom has its own AC unit whereas the living areas and baths did not. There were ceiling fans in the bedrooms and living areas to keep the air circulation. The ensuite bathroom is rather large also. It is a three-piece bath. The bathroom also had a large built-in clothes organizer. There was also an iron and a ironing board provided. The indoor living areas consisted of a full kitchen and a living room. From the living room, large doors opened to the patio and the stunning infinity pool. The kitchen has everything you need: silverware, flatware, dishwasher, microwave, stove, fridge, coffee maker, blender, wine cooler. Everything and the kitchen sink! These villas will work well if you prefer cooking your own meals. There is also a washer and dryer discreetly hidden in a closet in the kitchen. The living room was decent with a few sofas and a small flat screen TV. We didn't watch TV so I cannot comment on what was available. The villa had a dedicated WIFI which worked well. The outdoor area was top notch. There were many seating areas and a BBQ should you choose to grill. It's perfect for entertaining! The infinity pool was breathtaking! Check the pics! A housekeeper comes in on a daily basis. Someone typically calls and asks if you need them that day or not. We are fairly low maintenance so we only used her once for cleaning. I understand that they can also cook your meals for a fee. We ate at the on-site restaurant once. The food was alright. It would've been nice to have a golf cart to putter around with as the walk up the hill to the villa was laborious. If you are elderly or have some physical ailments, I would not recommend hiking up that hill. Although if you have a car (we didn't), you could use that to drive up and down the hill.
We have a family of 2, a total of 8 (4 adults, 4 kids under the age of 12) I sent an inquiry via email for their 4BR Villa but was told that the maximum allowable number of guest is 7. They offered me an additional rollaway bed in order to accommodate the 8 person for another extra $100 a night. (rollaway bed should be free upon request!) The online price is $599/night with 20% is due at the booking and 30 days prior is when the balance is due. However, I was told that it was $707/night (including $100 for rollaway bed) and I am required to pay Full Payment at the time of booking to secure my reservation. This is our first time travelling to Tobago and we are not rich, just wanted to get away and have a good time. I think adding 1 more person should not be an issue, besides the fact my girls (8yr & 9yr) and their kids (12yr & 7yr) who will be sharing rooms anyway!
Set on a hill overllloking the sea, these villas are well appointed, comfortable and the views are to die for!! We were in villa 4. From our arrival to our departure we had wonderful service from Franklyn and all the staff. It was very quiet at the time we stayed and not all the villas were occupied so we had the place almost to ourselves for the whole week.. (We stayed slightly out of season) The restaurant which wasn't open every evening we were there wasn't very busy but the food we ate there was good and the service excellent. There are also a few restaurants nearby but I would suggest you hire a car for your stay as the complex is quite isolated. There is a lot to do at this end of the island and we went out with a Mr B (Mr Blackman) on a day tour of part of the island. He was a real character and he was very knowledgable about the bird life on the island and the history. We had another week at an hotel in Speyside after we left Stonhaven and on our return to the airport we dropped the car off at The Villas. As it was quiet at The Villas we were made very welcome and allowed to use the facilities of the pool etc until we had to leave for the airport. We were met by Frankie at the airport on arrival in Tobago and he also took us back at the end of the holiday. He was georgeous!! Very helpful and full of information. Thanks Frankie. All in all our stay was wonderful and I would recommend The Villas to anyone who wanted peace and quiet but to be near to most of the attractions on the island. Franklyn - thank you and please pass on our thanks to all your wonderful staff . (Sorry it's taken me so long to write this review!!!!)
I must admit that I was left a little wary by the perceived less than warm welcome but in all honesty it was all positives from that point. The Villas are fantastic, the caretakers are fantastic, the view is fantastic and the location is ideal. These Villas are pricey but if you want a taste of the nice life in Tobago this should definitely be one of your options. We'll be back.
We visited Stonehaven last year and decided to return for another 10-day February break. We had the same villa each time so I can't comment on others but ours was very well equipped and has just about everything you need for a comfortable stay. Some of the fittings are a little tired but the view of the sea from the deck is great and it's a wonderful place to relax. The grounds are beautifully maintained. The only slight negative from that is that there is a lot of hedge/grass cutting and leaf blowing so some noise from those activities, mainly in the mornings.
