Beautiful hotel located in a quiet residential area- such a luxury experience. I would recommend to take the room in the villa with a direct view to the lake, and the restaurant and the bar is such a must-try. My favorite is the mojito and the lobster cappuccio. Excellent!
We arrived to the Leopoldo around 4pm on the 28th of February, and I was speechless. The beauty surrounding the hotel is utterly remarkable. The view from the back patio that you will see once you enter the doors of the hotels front entrance, is breathtaking. The Leopoldo holds great history and fulfilment and is preserved well with a clean and fresh ambience. When entering the hotel there was construction taking place in which there was no mention until we got into the elevator. We had to walk in the pouring rain with a giant crane blocking the entrance... with no help from any of the staff even though they had cameras and clearly, we were struggling with our luggage in rain... So if you are reading (staff at the Leopoldo) I would make it more evident to your customers about construction taking place and more obvious, prior to their arrival. Checking in, the front desk was helpful, and kind, she showed us to our rooms and offered us advice on what to do and the hotels amenities. I left a time lapse on in our suite to capture the sunset. We had left to have dinner in the hotels restaurant. Now... when watching back the footage we were horrified to see the glare from the window display the housekeeping who was turning our beds over... and she stopped and started taking stuff from my luggage, looking at it, and I don't even know what--- of course we showed this footage to the front desk who clearly didn't seem to want to have anything to do with this situation... making us feel completely uncomfortable and violated from an invasion of privacy. The front desk's response was "I cannot tell who was on housekeeping tonight by this video but I will talk to them in the morning and find out." The next morning --- we walked past the front desk to a new lady on shift. No mention. We checked out, and she said that she hoped we enjoyed our stay, and I said that "we did but I still feel it is so wrong about the housekeeping going through my luggage" with her response now acknowledging a conversation that she clearly did not want to enter- stating that "they had spoken to housekeeping and the lady on duty turning the beds was working alone and had so many suites to do she couldn't remember anything..." I was astonished at how their customer service worked, and how they had LIED. I just nodded. And walked away, I think it is so wrong the way we have been treated, and I would not recommend wasting your money or time in a place that needs to fix their manners, and treat their customers with some goddam respect. The best part of the hotel was the entertainment who made the entire stay worth our time and money. Davide Gadda. A fantastic gentleman, kind, and extraordinarily talented. The bar staff were beyond great and very accommodating. The next morning there was a lot of construction and we were not allowed to sit outside and enjoy our breakfast in the sunshine and view "unless we had dogs".... So there we have it.
This historic hotel in the beautiful city of Lugano is a true gem. All rooms are at least junior suites and some of them offer beautiful views over the lake and the city. The right place to relax when in Lugano. Staff is friendly and professional and the young GM is very present in the hotel. Since we went to a concert in the evening we didn't have time to enjoy the restaurant but the menu looked more than tempting. If you wish, a shuttle takes you to the city in about 5 minutes. Un vero piacere!
This is a belated Review. At first I thought I should not write about this Property, being so established. However, opinions should be shared, this being the reason of Trip Advisor's existence. As expected, the hotel was outstanding and unique, as a true member of Relais & Châteaux. The building is beyond critic, being one of the most charming villas in Europe, and very well kept. The room (a junior suite) was very spacious, immaculate, quiet, well-appointed, with a classic decor but not at all outdated. The balcony offered a magical view towards Lugano and the lake. Welcome and service are very good, however slightly distant. The bar is a wonderful experience, with live music, offering a timeless nostalgic ambience, bringing back lovely memories to those over 40 or more. Breakfast was adequate with excellent choices in certain items, in a lovely setting. Dinner is always excellent as any Relais & Châteaux. Wonderful choice for a long weekend with your beloved, in one of the most beautiful areas of Europe.
This hotel has everything wanted in a 5 Star hotel. We were warmly greeted at the door, our luggage whisked away and the car dealt with without any fuss. Reception was quick and easy and the junior suit spectacular with the most wonderful views of the lake and surrounding mountains. The hotel boasts a special restaurant and it certainly lived up to it's reputation and breakfast was pleasant and bountiful (even if not needed after the beautiful food the night before). The only problem was we had to leave the next day and could not enjoy this very special hotel for a second night. Highly recommend.
We spend 4 days in the hotel. The view and the surrounding area just wouah. The staff is welcoming. The ambiance at the bar is great. We had our toast with white truffles. Dinner at the gastronomic restaurant was very good and the manager of the restaurant perfect. Breakfast is OK. There is only scramble eggs for hot breakfast. You can ask if you wish but found it surprising expected more hot dishes and more Italian and swizz mixed for this category of hotel . price are at quiet high and for that rooms need to be refresh and more welcoming. The turn down service is not perfectly done. Curtains not closed, no towels added, no chocolates and whether information on the cushions, no night dress on the bed and no small light on while coming back to the room. In the corridor should put some flowers on consoles would look less cold. We enjoyed the 30mn offered in the spa it was just perfect. A great experience with the sensorial shower. Above all it was a beautiful moment out of time. The sweet at the lobby a great idea. Enjoyed before going back to the room having our sweets. Above those details I do recommend this hotel
Advantages : beautiful villa-hotel, best view of the lake, fine food and breakfast, nice pool area, the rooms with the lake view, live easy listening music in the bar. Disadvantages : not walking distance to Lugano center (5-7 minutes driving)
+ beautiful property + friendly and helpful staff, actually really helpful they should be commended for their attention to clients +suites have a pleasant view + outstanding location 10-15 mins walk to lugano town - our window overlooked bottle recycling which was used on a sunday at 8am and woke us up , actually against the law in Switzerland - gym and sauna outdated, gym in a room without windows. - spa for private use only 200 per hour access to hottub and steam room - bar menu actually expensive , I understand the restaurant is expensive as its gourmet but bar snacks? - 1980s choice of tv entertainment, no movies - bathroom scales batter corroded i cleaned it as the scales werent working, why dont hotels check these things - beds are too hard
Just had the pleasure to stay 7 nights at the Villa . Impeccable service from the moment we arrived until our departure date. Junior suite had an amazing view of Lake Lugano and even though the rooms are on the bottom floor , they were very sound proof and quiet. Breakfast buffet was over the top spectacular...even mimosas if so inclined. Would agree with other reviewers that property is stellar but what really sets this apart is the service. Thanks to all that made our stay memorable !
A totally beautiful old hotel with stunning views over the lake. The food is superb and the service exceptional. Their attention to detail is amazing. The bar has live music and attentive staff - even when placed under pressure by functions - this hotel is very popular for weddings.
